First Friday Fitness

Want to get into shape but feeling unsure how to properly use the UACCM Fitness Equipment? On the first Friday of every month between the hours of 4pm and 5pm Dr. Erick McCarthy, one of UACCM's Physical Education Instructors, will be on site at the Union Station Fitness Center to show students and faculty what equipment to use and how to properly use it.

School Counts!

The high school graduating class of 2010 is the first official class of graduates in Conway County to benefit from the School Counts! Initiative . These students enrolled in the School Counts! program their freshman year of high school, and worked diligently over the last four years to meet the School Counts! criteria that designates them as official School Counts! completers. The 2010 class of Conway County School Counts! graduates included 70 students county-wide, 26 of which are taking advantage of the scholarships offered to them through School Counts! by attending UACCM. The scholarships students receive may be used to purchase books or go toward paying tuition and fees, depending on the students’ existing award package.
Classes are Canceled today for the following; Anita Fowler (Essays are due next Thursday.) Kurtsy Spivey (Students need to check Angel for homework assignment.) Jessica Rohlman Gary Battershell (Quiz will be next class period.) Ricky Massengale (All classes will be canceled today and tomorrow.)

Registration for 8 week II

Se ptember 30 – October 1, 2010 Students may register for 8 week-II and 5 week-III courses. Registration will be held in BTC 100 . Bring a photo ID and be prepared to pay at the time of registration. Have a great day!!

Zumba!

Zumba is a program that fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow movements to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will have you wanting to work out, loving to work out and getting hooked on working out. There are two more sessions of Zumba classes currently scheduled thorough UACCM’s community education as a non-credit class . FALL FEST!

The UACCM 2010 Fall fest will be October 6 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm UACCM invites all students, faculty, and staff to FALL FEST at Union Square! There will tons of free food and drinks! If free funnel cakes , hand dipped corn dogs , fresh squeezed lemonade , and over 40 flavors of shaved ice aren't enough to get you to come out, there will also be; Slam dunk contest Faculty/staff vs student volleyball The National Guard Climbing Tower Red Cross blood drive Different student organizations from around the campus will also be setting up booths and games! Community-wide country picnic to welcome Dr. Davis

New Ebrary E-book Database for the E. Allen Gordon Library

The E. Allen Gordon Library has recently gained access to Academic Complete. Academic Complete is one of the largest multidisciplinary e-book databases licensed to libraries throughout the world. By adding Academic Complete to our Ebrary Community College Collection, we have been able to give students access to more than 50,000 titles from the world's leading publishers. This database will meet the broad needs of our students by providing e-books in all areas of academic studies that any number of people can access at the same time, from any Internet-connected computer or device. This was all made possible by a group purchase made by several two and four-year colleges here in Arkansas. If you have questions or would like to learn more about e-books visit the E. Join Team UACCM in Race for the Cure!

This year’s Team UACCM “Race for the Cure” theme is WE > ME. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5 K Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, October 16, in Little Rock. Team UACCM members will leave UACCM at approximately 5:45 a.m. All racers should gather in Little Rock at 7:30 a.m. Even if you can’t participate in the race, you can support the cause by buying a UACCM team T-shirt. September 24 is the deadline for shirt orders. Prices are Small, Medium, Large, X Large: $14; 2XL & 3XL: $15. Free workshop from Universal Housing Development

The UACCM Career Pathways office is pleased to host a free campus-wide workshop from the Universal Housing Development Corporation on Tuesday, September 28, in the UACCM Fine Arts Auditorium. The workshop, scheduled for presentations at both 11 a.m. and noon, is available to all students, faculty, and staff. Universal Housing provides individuals with free credit counseling and an IDA savings account that matches $3 for every $1 contributed by the individual. Money saved can be used to purchase a home, repair an existing home, or used toward educational goals. Students currently enrolled in Career Pathways must attend one Employability Workshop per semester. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about different forms of financial assistance that can help you achieving your dreams! Davis Begins Role as UACCM Chancellor

Dr. Larry Davis officially began his duties as the newest chancellor of UACCM on September 16. Students, employees, and the public are invited to attend a welcome picnic Tuesday, September 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in The UACCM Plaza courtyard. University of Arkansas System President Dr. B. Alan Sugg recently appointed Davis as chancellor following Nathan Crook’s retirement, and the University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees ratified that appointment during their quarterly meeting September 10. Davis has 37 years of experience in community college administration and instruction, most recently serving as vice chancellor for academic affairs at Arkansas State University-Newport for the past six years. Prior to that, he was an instructor, department head and division chair during a 31-year stint at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology-Okmulgee. “I’m very excited and very humbled by the opportunity to work with everyone at the college and in the Morrilton com

UACCM Theatre presents "The Mirrorman"

The UACCM Theatre presents, The Mirrorman, a highly interactive and exciting theatrical experience especially created for children grades kindergarten through 3rd grade. The play, written by Brian Way, will be performed Saturday, September 25, and Sunday, September 26 in the UACCM Fine Arts Auditorium. Both performances begin at 2 pm and are 45 to 50 minutes in length. The premise of the play involves the Toymaker, who has created a most unusual doll that, with the audience's help, can walk and talk. The Toymaker and his doll are swept into a series of adventures by the Toymaker's reflection in the mirror -- The Mirrorman, who needs help to protect his book of spells and magic from a witch who would conquer the world behind mirrors. The happy conclusion to this internationally acclaimed, hugely popular classic is one that involves the continuous, enthusiastic participation of the audience. Sculpture Exhibit on Display at LDI

The Arkansas Sculptors Guild has loaned several pieces of sculpture for an exhibit at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton’s Leadership Development Institute (LDI) in downtown Morrilton at 115 East Broadway. The exhibit, which began on September 16 and will run for 45 days, is free and open to the public. In June, the LDI participated in the Fifth Annual Arkansas Sculpture Invitational held in downtown Morrilton. This was a joint effort among the City of Morrilton, the Arts Council of Conway County, and the Arkansas Sculptors Guild. The Leadership Development Institute is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm. The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton has announced that the first book discussion session using the book Belle in the Slouch Hat, by Mimi Mathis will be held on Tuesday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the UACCM Fine Arts Auditorium.  The program will begin with a presentation by UACCM history instructor Dr. Gary Battershell on Quantrill’s raiders who played an integral part in the book.  This program is a joint endeavor of the E. Allen Gordon Library at UACCM and the Conway County Library. Book discussion groups will be held on September 21 and October 19, and the program will end on November 16 with a presentation by the author on her book and how she was encouraged to write it. UACCM's pop/jazz vocal ensemble, Soundscape, is proud to introduce the Salon Series. This will be a series of four performances throughout the year that will each focus on a particular composer or theme. The Salon Series will kick off on September 30 at 7:00 p.m. with “An Evening with Gershwin.” The evening will feature some of George Gershwin’s most beloved hits including “Someone to Watch Over Me”, “Summertime”, “I Got Rhythm”,” Swanee”, “They All Laughed”, “They Can’t Take That Away from Me” and many more! Tickets for this event are $10 and will include light hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are available at the UACCM Leadership Development Institute at 115 East Broadway (Hwy 64). Constitution Day Activities Set for September 17

UACCM will observe Constitution Day 2010 on Friday, September 17. The schedule of events includes a voter registration drive from 9 am to 1 pm in Union Station. There will be a reading of the U.S. Constitution at 11 am and a question and answer session with history instructor Traye McCool at noon. You may view a copy of the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, and also reaffirm the Declaration of Independence with your signature! Come celebrate your freedom by joining in the activities and observing our forefathers' foresight! All  activities are in Union Station (Kirk Building).

9/11 Tribute Scheduled for Friday

Please take a moment to attend a 9/11 tribute on Friday morning, September 10, at 9 a.m. at the flag poles in front of the University Center. There will be a brief ceremony led by UACCM counselor Lynn Baker. In case of rain, the tribute will be moved inside to the University Center lobby. As we approach the 10th anniversary of this devastating event in our nation's history, it is important that we NEVER FORGET.

Important News from Registrar re Transcripts

The UACCM Registrar's Office has announced that no transcripts may be issued between September 17 and 30 due to an upgrade with the computer system. Individuals needing a transcript should request it prior to September 17. Watch for blog updates as this upgrade may take less time than anticipated.
