UACCM Hosting Open House Events for Conway and Clinton Locations

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will hold open house events for its recently relocated Adult Education Centers in Clinton and Conway. Both events are open to the public. On Wed., June 2, the UACCM Adult Education Center in Clinton Open House will be at the 236 Factory Road location from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with a ribbon-cutting at 11:30 am. During the past four years, the Clinton facility has served almost 300 students. On Thurs., June 3, the UACCM Adult Education Center in Conway Open House will be at the 1070 Markham Street location from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Conway Area Chamber of Commerce staff will be on-site for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:30 am. During the past four years, the Conway location has served over 2300 students with almost 200 individuals earning their GED credential. UACCM Adult Ed Locations to Host Open House

Arkansas Adult Education, a Division of Workforce Services, will host its third annual statewide Open House at its 40 adult education centers around the state. The purpose is to raise awareness about adult education programs and the success of those who have used them.  All four locations of UACCM Adult Education will be open on September 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., where the public can learn about their services and how Arkansas Adult Education can help you get job-ready. This event is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.    More than 35 million American adults struggle to read, write, do math, and use technology above a third-grade level. In Arkansas, 18 percent of the population need adult education and training, and every year, Arkansas Adult Education improves the lives of thousands of Arkansans. Adult Education Holds GED Graduation

The UACCM Adult Education Program is pleased to announce that 32 area residents earned a GED® during the 2011-2012 spring semester.  In honor of these graduates, a summer GED® Graduation Ceremony was held in the UACCM Fine Arts Auditorium on the evening of Tuesday, June 26. Following the ceremony, GED® graduates celebrated their accomplishments surrounded by family members and friends in the UACCM Plaza.  A total of 68 individuals have earned a GED® diploma during 2011-2012 program year. Arkansas is one of only a few states that currently offers the General Education Development (GED®) test at no cost to the student, but unfortunately that will soon change. Nationally, the GED® test is being updated and redesigned to reflect today’s common core educational standards. Beginning in 2014, the GED® test will be computer based with a projected fee of $120. Come Paint With Us!

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton is offering an opportunity for anyone who has ever wanted to learn to paint. Professional artist Lane McKinley will be teaching three separate classes at the UACCM Leadership Development Institute that will be focused on teaching participants about painting on canvas. The first class, Morning Instruction, will be for senior citizens and adults on March 15 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The second class, Friday Night Out, will be for adults on March 16 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The third class, After School, will be for children ages 7-14 on March 29 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The prices for the classes will be $35 for Morning Instruction, $40 for Friday Night Out, and $25 for After School. Price includes canvas, paint, and brushes.
