SEMCO EMPLOYEES TRAINED AT UACCM

One of the River Valley’s most successful manufacturing companies, SEMCO, has discovered the benefits of training its employees through the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Community Education Center. The condensed, specialized program will cut training time by nearly half for SEMCO employees. With two of its three production facilities located in Morrilton, SEMCO is a unique indoor environment products manufacturer serving the key disciplines of air distribution, noise abatement, temperature, and humidity control in the commercial and industrial building markets. The 85 full-time employees at the Morrilton plants produce a complete line of desiccant-based products and systems that recover energy, increase ventilation, and control humidity. CHANGES TO GED TEST IN 2014

http://www.uaccm.edu/Community/Adult%20Education.htm Arkansas was one of a few states that offered the General Educational Development (GED®) test at no cost to the student, but because of changes on the national level that require state-level compliance, that has changed. As it is currently, the same test battery is administered nationwide, but how each state handles the funding and whether test-takers pay a fee varies. “The new test will cost more money than Arkansas has traditionally been able to absorb, therefore, some of the test’s costs will be borne by the student beginning in 2014,” Hanlon said. The cost of the GED® exam for students is now $16.00. OSHA TRAINING FOR SMALL BUSINESS

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Community Education Center now offers training for small businesses in compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Costs associated with an employee injury or fatality can affect a business in many ways, including increased insurance costs, lost productivity, and lower morale. If the business is not complying with OSHA regulations, heavy fines could be assessed. This course is designed as a way for owners, managers, or other key personnel of small- to medium-sized businesses to familiarize themselves with some of the basic OSHA safety requirements that apply to their business. Attendees should come away with an understanding of the steps to take to begin developing an effective safety program for their business. UACCM OFFERING HOLIDAY COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASSES

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will offer several community education classes throughout the holiday season. These classes are low cost with convenient short hours that work around a busy schedule. Flow Yoga, led by instructor Jaymie Leigh Thomas, can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age or flexibility. The classes involve linking several poses together to build strength, flexibility, endurance and balance, moving toward progression gradually. Flow Yoga is held weekly in the evenings at the UACCM Health and Fitness Building for $25 per month. Class dates vary around the holidays to accommodate schedules of participants. Christmas Crafting, led by instructor Mandy Voliva, will be offered Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Community Education Center in Morrilton. Free Green Advantage Certification Training

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will host a free six-hour Green Advantage Certification training class on Friday, August 24, from 9 am to 4 pm in the UACCM Business Technology Center (BTC) Room 206. Typically, the cost of this training is $175 per person; however, with funding received from the Arkansas Energy Sector Partnership Grant, this training will be free of charge. Emphasis is given to construction field practices as they relate to the role construction personnel have in improving the environmental and health attributes of the built environment. To date, UACCM has provided training for over 100 Nabholz employees in these green initiatives and would like to do the same for other businesses. UACCM Youth Summer Programs

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) is offering several exciting options for area youth to participate in fun and educational programs during the summer months. Participants will be able to conduct science experiments, perform a musical production, or go on an imaginary journey across the Serengeti Desert! “Super Scientists” is a summer camp for those inquisitive, science-minded young students. They will experience the fun of building a scaled model of Mount Saint Helens, perform quasi-forensic analysis of "solid waste," collect and grow their own microbial cultures, perform anatomy dissections and many more memorable experiences while participating in the science camp. “Super Scientists” will be held on June 18-21 from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Lunch will be provided. The camp is $150 per child and will be open to all children who will be entering grades 4-6. Want to Travel the World with UACCM?

Here are a couple opportunities for students and community members to travel the world and earn college credit with UACCM! The sooner you register, the cheaper it is! The next deadline for discounts on both trips is the end of this month! The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton has announced that it will offering a ten-day guided travel excursion to London, Paris, Florence, and Rome for UACCM students and members of the community. The excursion, booked through EF College Study Tours, will take place May 13-22, 2013. UACCM Art Instructor Tina Selanders Lake, of Russellville, will be the group leader for this tour and has been leading college and community tours to Europe since 2010. The travel costs for students is $3,286.00 and for adults (age 30+) the cost is $3,496.00. Monthly payment options are available.
