Academic Commons now open

Image
UACCM Library Complex Throughout the summer, the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton has made many changes, additions and improvements.  Among the most visible of these is Timberwolf Crossing, a sidewalk project funded by a grant from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department located along the north side of campus near University Boulevard.  Another improvement that is less visible to passersby is the college's new Academic Commons, an area in the Library Complex specifically tailored to better assist students. The Academic Commons provides and combines three of the college's existing services: the E. Allen Gordon Library, tutoring services, and a science study lab.  The idea to combine these services into one department came about from student comments.  Students voiced their need for a place to go on campus during the evenings to study.  All three departments wer...

UACCM 'Learn, Preview, Nursing' Day a Success

Participants experienced the delivery of a simulated child. UACCM hosted a special "Learn, Preview, Nursing" day on July 25 to showcase the offerings of its licensed practical nursing program. Due to the high-demand of the program and with the fall semester quickly approaching, UACCM hosted the free event for anyone in the area who may be interested in the LPN program.  The day started with a presentation explaining what to expect as a nursing student featuring nursing department faculty and admissions staff.  Attendees were given a tour of the UACCM campus, an overview of the free services available to students, and assistance in completing financial aid forms. The three-hour preview also included a special session in working with high-fidelity mannequins from the nursing department's simulation lab.  This session featured the simulated birth of a child with hands-on opportunities for participants to examine the mannequins and work w...

This larger class will begin January 2014. “ARNEC has already exceeded the number of applications from last year, so we feel it is vital to increase student acceptance in 2014,” said Crystal Gillihan, ARNEC Director. “Our students are very successful. They are employed quickly after graduation in both acute care and long-term care settings. Many of our students chose to further their education and are gaining acceptance into BSN programs. ARNEC is a vital piece to rural education and rural health care in Arkansas.” The program is fully approved by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing, and the eight colleges that comprise the consortium have graduated approximately 225 students each year from the program, prior to the increase. ...

UACCM SPRING 2013 GRADUATES

Image
The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton announces its spring 2013 graduates. Commencement ceremonies were held Saturday, May 11, at the H.B. White Auditorium of Morrilton High School. UACCM outgrew its facilities to host graduation on its campus some years ago, and the South Conway County School District School Board allows the College to hold its commencement ceremonies in the auditorium at the high school. Even still, the faculty, staff, administration, family, and friends who gather to show their support to graduates exceed the capacity of the auditorium. For this reason, UACCM held two ceremonies, the first at 10:00 a.m. and the second at 1:00 p.m. Former United States Senator and University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees member David Pryor attended the 10:00 a.m. ceremony and congratulated graduates with words of encouragement. Also present at that ceremony was Dr. Leroy Cox of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith who awarded UACCM University B...
