Eckford From Little Rock Nine to Speak at UACCM

UPDATE: DUE TO AN ANTICIPATED LARGE CROWD, THE EVENT WILL NOW BE HELD IN TYSON TRAINING HALL, INSIDE THE DR. LARRY D. DAVIS WORKFORCE TRAINING CENTER. The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) will host Elizabeth Eckford on Thursday, February 15, at noon in Tyson Training Hall in the Dr. Larry D. Davis Workforce Training Center, as part of its "Talks, Thoughts, and Treats," speaker series. Eckford made history as a member of the Little Rock Nine, a group of nine African American students who desegregated Little Rock Central High School in 1957. The image of fifteen-year-old Eckford, walking through a screaming mob in front of Central High School, propelled the crisis into the nation’s living rooms and brought international attention to Little Rock. In 1958, Eckford was awarded the Spingarn Medal by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), along with the rest of the Little Rock Nine. Daniels, Greene added to UACCM Board of Visitors

The University of Arkansas Community College at Arkansas (UACCM) announces that Josh Daniels and Lisa Greene have joined the UACCM Board of Visitors.  The nominations of both Daniels and Greene were first approved by the UACCM Board of Visitors and received final approval from the UA System Board of Trustees. The two new Board members attended their first Board of Visitors meeting on Dec. 5.    “It is an honor to welcome and work with Josh and Lisa. Josh’s background in education and deep roots to the area alongside Lisa’s extensive industry experience with one of Conway County’s largest industries will prove invaluable to our board. Both are committed to seeing UACCM continue to provide local students the most beneficial education and training possible,” said UACCM Chancellor Lisa Willenberg. If you received aid or paid out of pocket for any tuition and fees during Calendar Year 2023 (January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023) you may be eligible to receive a 1098-T tax Tuition Statement from UACCM. 1098t statements can be found on http://1098tforms.com/ . Please click on either “returning student login” if you used the website last year, or “to student enrollment page” if this is your first time on the website. Johnson Controls Invests in UACCM HVAC Training

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) was presented with a $100,000 check from Johnson Controls to invest in training and educational opportunities to support students in the college’s Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology (HVAC) program. UACCM is one of 10 colleges nationwide to receive a grant in 2023 through Johnson Controls Community College Partnership Program.  As thousands of skilled technicians are projected to leave the workforce each year over the next decade due to heightened retirements or career changes, UACCM and Johnson Controls share a common goal of prioritizing investments in workforce training and recruitment to bridge the skilled trades gap. Davis Nursing Scholarship Established

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) is honored to share that the Dr. Larry and Carlene Davis Nursing Scholarship has been established as a new endowment at the college. The scholarship created by Dr. Larry and Carlene Davis is in honor of the couple’s daughter, Sara Woods, who is a practicing MSN degree nurse in Oklahoma. Davis said he and his wife Carlene are thrilled to support the students who will be attending classes in the college’s planned Nursing & Health Center set to open in late 2025 or early 2026. The endowed scholarship will be awarded based on financial need for full-time students in the Practical Nursing (LPN) and Registered Nursing (RN) programs at UACCM. The recipients must be Arkansas residents. Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.50 or higher (first-time entering students will use high school GPA) and must submit an essay on the topic, “Why I Want to Be a Nurse”. Multiple scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $250

UACCM Celebrates Nursing Graduates

In December, UACCM was proud to celebrate its graduates from the Practical Nursing and Registered Nursing programs.  A total of 50 students graduated from the programs with several having jobs with local medical facilities already lined up, or choosing to continue their education.  During the Practical Nursing Pinning Ceremony,  Mia Chantha, from Conway, was awarded the Heartbeat of Nursing award. The Heartbeat of Nursing award is voted on by the class to honor the student who has shown excellence in clinical care, displays compassion and integrity, is a role model and displays ethical values, demonstrates leadership and professionalism, and has a nurse’s heart. During the Registered Nursing Pinning Ceremony,  Rebecca Mann, from Bigelow, was presented with the Nightingale Award and Blake Barrett, from Conway, and Meghan Knotts, from Conway, were both presented with the Nurses’ Heart Award. JANUARY STUDENT OF THE MONTH: GRACE PAMUDJA

  Throughout the month of December, the UACCM Student Success Center reviewed nominations from faculty and staff regarding who they feel should be selected as student of the month. Grace Pamudja has been chosen as January's student of the month! Grace is in her second year at UACCM, pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Welding Technology.  Grace is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the National Technical Honor Society. After graduation, she plans to pursue a Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Arkansas Little Rock. Within the next five years, Grace hopes to complete an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and work in the aerospace industry.  Grace said that her favorite thing about UACCM is the supportive instructors who helped her overcome learning curves and achieve academic success.  Grace advises all current and future Timberwolves to have a goal in mind and work towards those goals daily. She says college can be daunting, but having a strong work ethic and an obj
