The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton announces plans for “Starlight Cinema,” a free outdoor community movie night. The event will feature “Trouble With the Curve” Monday, June 24, from 8:00 until 10:00 p.m. on the lawn near the Plaza courtyard on the UACCM campus. Attendees should bring blankets or lawn chairs. Morrilton Boy Scout Troop 93 will manage a concession stand at the event as a fundraiser for their summer camp costs. The concession stand will open at 7:30 p.m. and will have Coke products, bottled water, popcorn, and candy for sale. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors. “Trouble With the Curve” is a Warner Bros. film released in 2012 starring Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, and Justin Timberlake. Summer is normally a time when the last place a child wants to be is at school… until now! The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Community Education Center is bringing back Kids College. Children entering first through third grades can experience a full week of imagination, education, and fun at UACCM this summer! Through educational adventures from the Great Plains to the Great Barrier Reef, they will revisit the days of the Pony Express and explore the coast of Australia. Parents can choose one of two weeks, July 8-11 or July 15-18, for their child to join in the summer fun at Kids College. Classes start at 8:00 a.m. each day and end at 2:30 p.m. in the UACCM Kirk Building Rooms 116-119. The cost to attend the four-day excursion is $70 per child. The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton announces its spring 2013 graduates. Commencement ceremonies were held Saturday, May 11, at the H.B. White Auditorium of Morrilton High School. UACCM outgrew its facilities to host graduation on its campus some years ago, and the South Conway County School District School Board allows the College to hold its commencement ceremonies in the auditorium at the high school. Even still, the faculty, staff, administration, family, and friends who gather to show their support to graduates exceed the capacity of the auditorium. For this reason, UACCM held two ceremonies, the first at 10:00 a.m. and the second at 1:00 p.m. Former United States Senator and University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees member David Pryor attended the 10:00 a.m. ceremony and congratulated graduates with words of encouragement. Faculty and staff of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton gathered on April 25 to honor distinguished students at this year’s Student Recognition Awards Ceremony. Students were joined by their families and peers as they were recognized for their achievements. Earlier in the semester, students were nominated by faculty and staff for distinguished awards in their fields of study. The free seminar will begin at 6:30 p.m. May 14 in the Fine Arts Gallery. Rye will teach simple, feasible, commonsense and proven methods that will make both new and existing homes more efficient and that can mean more comfort and lower utility bills. Rye hosts "Home Remedies," a show focusing on energy efficiency that airs on radio stations in several states. The licensed architect is a consultant for the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas and writes a monthly column for Arkansas Living magazine on ways cooperative members can reduce their energy bills. Almost 70 years have passed since the end of World War II, which concluded a horrendous time in our world’s history known as the Holocaust. The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton and the University of Central Arkansas are proud to announce that Henry Greenbaum, a Holocaust survivor, will visit Morrilton and Conway in March for three speaking appearances. Greenbaum is a speaker volunteer from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. On March 12, he will share his story at 9:45 a.m. at the H.B. White Auditorium on the Morrilton High School campus. At 6:30 that evening, he will speak at the Fine Arts Auditorium at UACCM. Additionally, Greenbaum will speak at 7:00 p.m. on March 13 at the Conway Senior High School James H. Clark Auditorium. Each of these events is free and open to the public. Join them for a free information session on Sunday, March 10, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Fine Arts Auditorium at UACCM. The session features an interactive student panel who will share what they wish they had known before starting college. Staff from the UACCM Financial Aid Office will explain the new rules for financial aid and give tips on how to go after the “free money” available for college students. Attendees will also be informed about student support services that help them succeed in their college experience. The UACCM Foundation announces plans for the 11th annual Just Desserts fundraiser on Thursday, February 14 from 5:30-8:00 pm in the UACCM Plaza. Just Desserts features a variety of desserts, savory snacks, and musical entertainment, as well as silent and chance auctions. Just Desserts boasts an impressive selection of all you can eat desserts that are guaranteed to satisfy even the biggest sweet tooth. All of the desserts are donated by area bakeries and restaurants, as well as UACCM faculty, staff, and Foundation Board members. A gourmet coffee bar will be available as well as a selection of savory snacks, including Petit Jean meat and cheese trays.
