Davis Begins at UACCM; Community-Wide Welcome Picnic Planned

Larry Davis officially began his duties as the newest chancellor of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) on September 16. University of Arkansas System President Dr. B. Alan Sugg recently appointed Davis as chancellor following Nathan Crook’s retirement, and the University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees ratified that appointment during their quarterly meeting September 10. 
Davis has 37 years of experience in community college administration and instruction, most recently serving as vice chancellor for academic affairs at Arkansas State University-Newport for the past six years. Prior to that, he was an instructor, department head and division chair during a 31-year stint at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology-Okmulgee.
“I’m very excited and very humbled by the opportunity to work with everyone at the college and in the Morrilton community to build upon the great foundation that’s already been established at UACCM,” Davis said.
A welcome picnic will be held at UACCM on Tuesday, September 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in The Plaza courtyard. In the event of rain, the picnic will be moved indoors to The Plaza dining facility. The public is invited to attend the event and help welcome Davis to the community.

The year's most outstanding students at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton were honored at the Student Recognition Awards Ceremony, an annual gathering of faculty, staff, and families joining students to celebrate their accomplishments. Every department nominates students to receive awards based on academic excellence in their field of study. Awards are also given from the UACCM Student Activities, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, and other student organizations to outstanding students for their engagement at the college community and organization. A student ambassador is also selected as Ambassador of the Year. Four Decades of Gratitude: Newsome Reflects on 43-Year Career with UACCM

Mary Newsome, Assistant to the Chancellor of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) and UACCM’s longest serving employee in the history of the institution, has announced she will retire after 43 years of service on May 7, 2024.  Friends and members of the community are welcome to join in celebrating Newsome and wish her luck in retirement during her retirement party on Friday, May 3, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Dr. Larry D. Davis Workforce Training Center on the campus of UACCM. “Mary Newsome is the epitome of class, dedication, honor, and loyalty.   Earlier this month, Zaybrau Williams, from Dardanelle, was named Miss UACCM in the fifteenth annual Miss UACCM pageant.  Zaybrau was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the UACCM’s Chancellor’s Office, a floral bouquet courtesy of Plummer’s Flowers and Gifts, Morrilton, and gifts cards from Elia’s Mexican Grill, Morrilton, and Red Barn Market, Conway.
