New Fitness Equipment at Union Station!

Stop by the Union Station Fitness Center in the Kirk Building and check out the NEW fitness equipment! In addition to all of the workout gear always available in the fitness center, two new elliptical machine and a new treadmill have recently been added. Stop in between classes or after you're finished for the day and check it out!

Book Buy Back Time!

Well, it's that time again! Summer classes will be over in just a couple of days, and that means it's book buy back time at the University Bookstore! Stop by the bookstore this Thursday, July 29 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm to get ca$h for your books. Books must be in good condition and include all items originally purchased with them (cd's instructional manuals, etc.) As always, don't forget your UACCM ID! Have books from past semesters you want to sell yourself? Try posting them on the UACCM Facebook Page. Several students have done so recently, and it looks like they're getting results! Give it a try at www.facebook.com/UACCM and don't forget to "Like" us while you're there! Fall 2010 registration is right around the corner! Registration will be available to students based on an alphabetical schedule, so check it out here and make plans to register.   

E. Allen Gordon Library News

The E. Allen Gordon Library may be closed today, but there are all kinds of things happening there! Read on to find out what's up at the library. For more information on anything below, contact the library staff at (501)977-2092.. Library users now have an additional 21,000 books available electronically 24/7. The library recently began a subscription to Ebrary’s Community and Career College collection. Subjects included are: Nursing and Allied Health Computer technologies and business College success and testing guides Career and job skill development General education titles in social Sciences, humanities and sciences To access these titles, go to the library home page , select "databases" and then "Ebrary" from the list. Off-campus access will be available in August using the barcode number from your student ID card. The library will issue new barcodes for student ID’s when the fall semester begins. "G'day Mate!" UACCM Kid's College Wraps Up

40 area children learned how to say “G’day mate” and “Yee-haw!” while exploring the culture, sights and sounds of the far away land of Australia and the rough-and-rowdy Wild West during Kid’s College at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton July 12-16. During the week, participants learned all about Australia and the Great Barrier Reef as well as the American Wild West in a fun, interactive environment. Kids performed hands-on activities, games, scientific investigations, and art projects designed to enhance their math and science skills. During their final day on campus, the children invited their parents to come and enjoy a program highlighting what they had learned during the week. According to UACCM Division Chair of Community Education Kim Darling, “The kids all seemed to have had a great time, and we hope to continue to expand the program in the future to further enhance the positive impact we can make on these young minds.”

Fall Registration Coming up August 4-5

Regular registration for the fall 2010 semester at UACCM will begin on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 . All new and returning students who did not pre-register should plan to register according to the alphabetical schedule below: Students whose last names begin with the letters S through Z may register from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, August 4. The alphabetical schedule continues throughout the day with students whose last names begin with the letters A through I registering from noon to 4:00 p.m. and students whose last names begin with the letters S through Z and A through I registering from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Registration will continue on Thursday, August 5 with students whose last names begin with the letters J through R registering from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Open registration will be held from noon to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 5. Students are encouraged to register as early as possible due to the extremely limited class spaces available. Chancellor Finalists on Campus This Week!

Happy Monday, UACCM! The three finalists for the position of UACCM's next chancellor will be on campus today through Wednesday. Today's finalist is Nancy Russell, who currently serves as vice president for instruction at Pima Community College-Community Campus in Tucson, Ariz. UACCM staff members are invited to attend a question/answer session with Russell from 9:15-10:00 am today, faculty members from 10:15-11:00 am, and students from 11:30-noon in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Members of on and off-campus communities are also invited to attend the presentation "My Vision for UACCM" from 3:00-4:00 pm today.  Tomorrow, Dr. Thomas Flowers, former vice chancellor for instruction at UACCM will take the stage and Wednesday, July 21, Larry Davis, vice chancellor for academic affairs for ASU-Newport will be on campus. Get your $$$ Today, Exams, and Registration!

Happy Friday, UACCM! If you're a summer II student and are waiting on a Pell Grant or loan refund, today's your day! Refund checks can be picked up until 4:30 p.m. today at the Student Accounts windows in the University Center (just in time for the weekend!) Be sure to bring your student ID ...you'll need it to pick up your check. Need to take the Math for Nurses departmental exam? Hurry! You need to sign up by Monday, July 19 in order to take the test next week. Chancellor Finalists Announced - Campus Visits Scheduled Next Week

The committee searching for the next chancellor at UACCM has narrowed the list of applicants for the position to three finalists. Among finalists is Dr. Thomas Flowers of Center Ridge. Flowers formerly served as a staff member at UACCM from 1992-2008, holding the positions of vice president for student services, vice chancellor for academic services, vice chancellor for instruction and dean of students. Other finalists include Dr. Larry Davis, vice chancellor for academic affairs at Arkansas State University-Newport and Nancy Russell , vice president for instruction at Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz. Finalists are scheduled to visit the UACCM campus on Monday, July 19 (Russell), Tuesday, July 20 (Flowers) and Wednesday, July 21 (Davis). Candidates will visit with current students, faculty, staff and members of the community while on campus. New Book Program Encourages Reading, Discussion

UACCM and the Conway County Library are cooperating on the development of “One book, One Community,” an all campus, all-community book discussion program starting this fall. Students, faculty, and staff at UACCM, Conway County Library patrons and book lovers throughout the area will be encouraged to read Belle in the Slouch Hat , by Mimi Mathis and engage in thoughtful, productive discussions about the issues raised in the book. Belle in the Slouch Hat is an adventure story of 15-year old Belle Brayden, who lived in Missouri during the Civil War. Belle’s brother was a member of Quantrill’s raiders and was killed by a vicious Yankee captain. When Belle started wearing her brother’s slouch hat, her life changed. In her quest to find her brother’s killer, she began having more adventures and misadventures, eventually joining forces with a spiritual mentor and her 16-year-old cousin Winnie. Birkner Named Interim Chancellor

University of Arkansas System President Dr. B. Alan Sugg has named Dr. Linda Birkner interim chancellor of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton. Birkner currently serves as vice chancellor for finance at the college and will serve during the search for a permanent chancellor to replace Nathan Crook who retired June 30. Birkner has been vice chancellor since 1984, serving during the college's transition from a technical school to a community college in the UA System. She earned a doctorate in higher education administration from UALR.

Summer II courses begin Tuesday, July 6. HAVE A SAFE AND FUN INDEPENDENCE DAY! In Morrilton, the warm summer weather means it’s time for festivals, barbeques, pool parties and FREE outdoor movies! The first “Starlight Cinema” free movie night for the season at UACCM is coming up on Thursday, July 15 . The featured movie is the 2009 animated comedy Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs presented free of charge in the UACCM Plaza Courtyard beginning at approximately 8:30 p.m. The movie, which will be shown on UACCM’s extra-large movie screen, is being sponsored by the college. Admission is open and free to the community in addition to UACCM students, faculty, and staff. Concessions including popcorn, drinks and candy will be available during the event.
