Free Holiday Concert Features Kyla Horton

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will host a special holiday concert with singer Kyla Horton on Friday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the UACCM Fine Arts Auditorium. This concert, sponsored by the College, is being offered free of charge and is open to the public. Horton, the twenty year-old daughter of Danny and Shirley Horton of Marshall, has been entertaining since the age of ten and has received numerous awards and honors for her vocal talent. She has also entertained at many local functions in and around Searcy County. She was crowned Miss Teen North Central Arkansas 2004, and was recently crowned Miss North Central Arkansas. She represented the region in the 2007 Miss Arkansas Pageant.  Horton spent the 2002 entertainment season performing 11 shows weekly with Ed McMahon at the Majestic Theatre in Branson. Night of Luminaries Lights Up UACCM For The Public

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton invites the public to attend the 5th annual Night of Luminaries beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 29 on the UACCM campus. During this free community event, approximately 1,700 candle-lit paper bags will illuminate the drive through the center of campus. The small white paper bags, filled with sand anchoring a candle, have been hand-decorated during the past several weeks by kindergarten through sixth grade students enrolled in all elementary schools in Conway County, along with the Center for Exceptional Children. Individuals attending the Night of Luminaries should enter campus through the Bruce Street entrance on the east end of the college property. The official route will take vehicles behind the Kirk Building before passing the Science Building and the Technology II and Technology III Buildings. The route will continue west past the Fine Arts Building to the UACCM Plaza, where visitors may stop for refreshment...

UACCM Wins Big at Marketing and Public Relations Conference

UACCM Director of Institutional Advancement Mary Clark and Graphic Designer Trevor Mize attended the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District IV regional conference in Galveston, Texas recently. During the conference awards ceremony, Mize received the Gold Medallion for Innovation in Technology for a Digital Easter Egg Hunt conducted on the UACCM Web site earlier this year.    Additionally, UACCM received Silver Medallions for Web Site Design, College Viewbook, and College Recruiting Poster, and a Bronze Medallion for College Promotional Video. There were over 350 entries in the Medallion Awards competition this year from the approximately 100 member colleges in District IV, which includes Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming. Boyd to Present "Visions From Arkansas to Alaska" Photography Exhibit

Terry Boyd will be presenting “Visions from Arkansas To Alaska,” a photography exhibit, on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton campus. Sponsored by the college, this exhibit will be offered for free and will be open to the public.  Boyd, originally from Russellville, is a photographer who travels and photographs the United States, with emphasis on Alaska. He has spent the last several months in Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska, and will be making an interactive visual presentation while at UACCM. According to Boyd, “The first step toward creative photography is to see with love in one’s heart; that is vision clarified. Nursing Scholarships Awarded to Students at UACCM

The Edward Craig Smith Scholarship Foundation recently awarded $24,900 of scholarship money for nursing students at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton and Arkansas Tech University.  (left to right) Nursing Instructor Debbie Rodgers, scholarship recipient Kathleen Hall, scholarship recipient Brandi Glover,  Edward Craig Smith Foundation Board Vice President Jamie  Toland, scholarship recipient Morgan Childress, Nursing Dept. Nursing Students Receive Edward Craig Smith Scholarships

The Edward Craig Smith Scholarship Foundation recently awarded $17,500 of scholarship money for two nursing students at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton and five nursing students at Arkansas Tech University.  This is one of the largest private scholarship awards in the River Valley.   It was the late Edward B. and Pauline Smith’s vision to set up a scholarship foundation to honor their son, Edward Craig Smith, who predeceased them on Dec. 7, 2000.  The scholarships benefit nursing students at UACCM and ATU.  The scholarships are awarded for one semester and they may be renewed each semester by the board of directors.  The foundation board includes John Stottman, president; Jamie Toland, vice-president; and Josh Sanford, secretary.  Richard Johnson of Johnson Investment Group in Russellville manages the scholarship money. UACCM Art Students Place First

Two students enrolled in the art program at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton recently took first place honors for their artwork at local fairs. Jennifer Kay (right) of Bee Branch took the first place prize for her charcoal piece titled “Study after Picasso” at the Van Buren County Fair. Kay is in her first semester at UACCM. After graduating, she plans to attend a four-year university to complete a bachelor’s degree in art education.  Callie Latimer (left) of Center Ridge also received a first place award for her graphite-drawing “Homage to Mantegna” at the Conway County Fair. Latimer is a graduate of Hendrix College with a bachelor’s degree in education, and upon graduation from UACCM, she plans to become an art teacher.
