UACCM Students Win 19 Medals at SkillsUSA State Conference

UACCM (University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton) students once again found success at the SkillsUSA State Conference, earning a total of 19 medals across several technical and career-focused competitions. 

In total, 11 gold, five silver, and three bronze medals were awarded to UACCM students. UACCM high school satellite campuses also received an additional six medals. 

“We are all extremely proud of every one of these students. These awards are representative of their hard work and dedication. SkillsUSA gives students an opportunity to show off the well-rounded abilities, taught in all of their UACCM courses, not just their technical skills. These are victories that should be celebrated across the campus," said UACCM SkillsUSA Sponsor Aaron Hill. 

UACCM offers a tuition waiver for students who have won first place in the SkillsUSA Leadership and SkillsUSA State Conference. Two UACCM students who earned that scholarship continued their success this year, with both winning gold in their respective categories — Chase Bridges in Welding Fabrication, and Aaron Gutierrez in Medical Terminology.

Extemporaneous Speaking: Ivan Valadez, gold; Drew Hensley, silver.

HVACR: Clayton Decesaro, gold; Wesley Brown, bronze (high school level).

Information Technology: Christopher Ruff, silver.

Masonry: Brooklyn Easley, gold.

Medical Math: Abbey Pruitt, gold; Shelli Pittman, silver.

Medical Terminology: Aaron Gutierrez, gold.

Technical Drafting: Hayden Simpson, gold; Samantha Flores, bronze.

Welding: Trinity Sykes, gold.

Welding Fabrication Team: Chase Bridges, Gene Nunley and Luke Wewer, gold.

UACCM Day of Giving: Jordan Buggs

  On March 10, Timberwolves everywhere will unite for one day of giving – a day long giving event that will support UACCM students and programs.  Today, we highlight UACCM student Jordan Buggs, who has personally benefited from the aid provided by programs at UACCM. “I’ve used both the Student Emergency Fund and the Timberwolf Pantry and they have helped out so much,” said Jordan. The Timberwolf Pantry is a free option for students that is regularly stocked through donation with food and basic hygiene items. There are Timberwolf Pantries located in five buildings on campus. “I am on campus for a long time, and being able to get out of class and stop by the Timberwolf Pantry for a snack really helps,” Jordan said.   “If you have a little extra to spend, it doesn’t hurt to support others,” Jordan said.
