UACCM Nursing Assistant Class Open For Enrollment
The University
of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton is now taking applications for the
final Nursing Assistant course to be offered in 2017. The deadline to register
is Aug. 31, and only the first 12 paid applicants will be accepted.
This course will
begin on Wednesday, Sept. 13 with a mandatory orientation session from 5 p.m.
to 9 p.m. in Kirk Building Room 123, followed by a CPR for Healthcare Providers
class on Sept. 14 from 4:45 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. in the same room. The Nursing
Assistant classes will officially begin on Sept. 18, with students meeting
every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday until Nov. 7.
Students will be
prepared to provide competent, skilled nursing care in a compassionate manner
to residents of long-term care, hospice, and hospital facilities. Upon
successful completion of this course with a grade of “C” or higher, students
will take the state competency exam. With successful passage, students will be
eligible to become certified nursing assistants.
Those who wish
to apply for this eight-week course must have high school diploma or GED, and
the ability to meet minimum scored for reading, writing, and math with
placement scores from the past five years. Participants must also have a
negative tuberculosis test and be willing to undergo criminal background
clearance.
The registration
cost for this course is $450, though grant funding is available to dislocated
workers who are receiving unemployment or who have exhausted unemployment
benefits. Grants are also available for unemployed workers who have an
established attachment to the workforce, and those with a child under the age
of 21 living at home.
