Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theatre's Production of 'The Reluctant Dragon' Visits UACCM

The Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theatre on Tour will perform "The Reluctant Dragon" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11 at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton's Fine Arts Auditorium.

Children's Theatre on Tour is part of the State Services program at the Arkansas Arts Center, the state's premiere center for visual and performing arts. Recognized by The Drama League as one of the best regional theatre companies in America, the Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theatre is the only professional company in Arkansas that produces children's literary works for the state.

In the AAC production of “The Reluctant Dragon,” a boy finds a dragon in the hills above his home. What is the boy to do with this “scourge and a pest and a baneful monster?” Pay the beast a visit, of course! But instead of a monster, the boy finds a civilized, thoughtful, poetry-reading new friend. Everything is fun and games until the ill-informed villagers send for St. George to slay this “reptilian menace.” That’s when the boy — armed with only a quick wit and a kind, courageous heart — must step up to save the day. “The Reluctant Dragon” is adapted from the book by Kenneth Grahame and directed by Bradley Anderson, with music by Lori Isner.

This event is free and open to the public, though seating is limited. You can also download free educational guides for this performance at arkansasartscenter.org/activity-guides.
