the semester begins Wednesday...how about some free money?

Good morning, UACCM! New student orientation is currently underway here on campus, and we are gearing up for another record-breaking semester! Classes begin on Wednesday, but if you haven't made it to register yet, you can still attend late registration this Wednesday, January 13 and Thursday, January 14. Don't forget: you will need to pay a $25 late registration fee on these days.

Enrolled in a science class at UACCM that meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays? If so, remember that your first class will be held this Wednesday, January 13. Campus Connect incorrectly states that the classes will begin this Friday.  

Now how about some free money for upcoming semesters? You've heard about the Arkansas Lottery and Challenge Scholarships, so read on to find out how to apply for them:

Apply now for AR Challenge/Lottery Scholarship at http://www.adhe.edu/, then go to the YOUniversal application and complete your information. This application is for all state scholarship programs (excluding the Governor’s Distinguished Program).

Eligibility Requirements for Nontraditional Students
An applicant must:
  • Be an Arkansas resident and US citizen/lawful permanent resident
  • Be accepted for admission at an approved institution of higher education as a full-time or part-time student in a program of study that leads to a baccalaureate degree, associate degree, qualified certificate or a nursing school diploma
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Meet one of the following criteria:
  1. Must have graduated from an Arkansas high school and achieved at least a 2.5 high school grade point average or had a minimum composite score of 19 on the ACT or the equivalent score on an ACT equivalent; or
  2. Has completed at least twelve (12) semester hours of courses granting 3 or more hours of credit at an approved institution of higher education and earned a postsecondary grade point average of at least 2.5
Application Deadline Date

Application deadlines for nontraditional students are June 1 for applicants enrolling the fall term and November 1 for applicants enrolling in the spring term. Scholarships will be awarded beginning with the fall 2010 semester.

At this time, award amounts for the Academic Challenge Scholarship have not yet been determined. The amount will be determined by scholarship lottery proceeds and the Arkansas State General Assembly. Award amounts are expected to be announced in February 2010.
