UACCM Esports Brings Competitive Gaming to Campus

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton esports club is accepting new members for the spring 2023 and fall 2023 semesters.

The esports club is open to all UACCM students, and primarily focuses on Rocket League and Valorant. Practice is held Tuesdays at noon in the esports lab, found in the Fine Arts Building, Room 112. Participating students must maintain a 2.0 GPA.

Aaron Bullock, faculty representative of the UACCM esports club, brought esports to UACCM because, “When COVID hit, it did a number on the comradery of the students. I wanted to give them something that would bring them together again outside of the classroom.”

Bullock also believes the esports club offers more than just relational benefits, as the games they compete in require studying, problem-solving and critical thinking, which translate into skills such as programming, digital art, networking, and more. The esports lab features gaming computers that promote the understanding of computer hardware and troubleshooting.

Esports have had an increased presence on college campuses across the nation, and the UACCM esports club has competed against several other esports clubs statewide, including Arkansas State University, Southern Arkansas University, and more.

If you are interested in joining the UACCM esports club, you may contact Bullock at bullockaaron@uaccm.edu, or attend their weekly Tuesday meetings.
