UACCM Career Center to Host Open House Wednesday, May 17

UACCM Career Center Open House, Monday May 17, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, UACCM Workforce Training Center

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will host an open house for the UACCM Career Center, the secondary career center for high school students in grades 10 through 12. The event is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 17.

Through a unique partnership with the Office of Skills Development, a division within the Arkansas Department of Commerce, high school students may enroll in college-level skills training at UACCM free of charge. The Office of Skills Development pays tuition, fees, and supplies for 10th through 12th grade students enrolled in air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration; automotive service technology; collision repair and refinishing technology; construction technology; emergency medical technician; industrial mechanics and maintenance; nursing assisting; and welding technology.

The open house will serve as a grand reopening of sorts, since UACCM assumed operations of the former River Valley Career Academy effective for the 2021-21 school year. Due to the COVID pandemic, virtual instruction was in place for many high school students at the beginning of the fall 2020 semester preventing those students from attending in-person classes at the new Career Center on the UACCM campus.

The UACCM Career Center serves students from high schools in Conway, Faulkner, Perry, Pope, Van Buren, Yell counties. Students enroll in career training programs that allow them to earn college credits and, in some cases, earn a credential such as a certificate of proficiency, technical certificate, or associate of applied science degree.

High school students and parents can tour the Career Center classrooms and labs in the UACCM Workforce Training Center, Kirk Building, Technology II, and Technology III facilities while visiting with faculty and other college representatives. A number of industry representatives will be on site to share information about future job opportunities. Industry partners who have confirmed attendance thus far include Associated Builders & Contractors of Arkansas; Building Systems Integrators, Flywheel Energy; Johnstone Supply; Koontz Electric/National Association of Women in Construction; Matco Tools; Middleton Heat & Air; Ozark Health Nursing and Rehab; Mike Palmer Insurance; Parker Cadillac; Prospect Steel Company; River Chase Nursing and Rehab; UCA Nursing department; and Welsco.

Refreshments will be served, including hot dogs and sodas. There is no pre-registration required.
