Student Group Aims To Improve Campus Life

With the spring semester hitting a closing stretch, many students are looking for outlets to relax and unwind on campus. Through the pandemic, UACCM Student Activities has been hard at work providing an engaging environment where students can gather safely through the coronavirus, with an emphasis on social distancing and the use of masks.

At any campus event, there is a team of dedicated students from the Student Activities Board who are always present. They are manning booths to hand out goodies. They play in sporting games or take part in various fitness classes. Whatever it is, the Student Activities Board is there to help other students make friends and enjoy a robust campus life.

“SAB benefits the campus as a whole by creating new events for students to participate in and bring people together with events that are relevant and fun,” said Lauren Bryan, coordinator of Student Activities. “For those serving on SAB, it provides them experience to work on a team, use their creativity, and also take on some responsibility to organize and execute events on campus.”

The idea to create the board came to Bryan when she recognized that some engaged students wanted to take on bigger roles on campus.

“I could see that students wanted more interaction with their peers and who were willing to step up. I wanted to start a Student Activities Board to provide students with opportunities to serve, but also a group to help them develop teamwork and leadership skills.”

The organization is all about bringing students together. Events range from intramurals to scavenger hunts, to some of the campus’ staple events, such as Spring Fling.

Tania Armas

Major: Nursing

Hometown: Clinton, AR

Interests: Binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy 📺, dancing 💃🏼, and listening to podcasts. 🎧

Tania is most excited about playing in ping-pong tournaments.

 

Ethan Briggler

Major: General Education

Hometown: Morrilton, AR

Interests: Running 🏃‍

Seth Dickeson

Major: General Education

Hometown: Heber Springs, AR

Interests: Reading 📚 and working out. 💪🏋️‍♂️

“My favorite thing about UACCM is how welcoming it is and the staff! My favorite event was Veterans Day.” 

 

Chloe Watts

Major: General Education

Hometown: Perryville, AR

Interests: Coffee ☕ and hiking. 🥾

“I love how UACCM has small class sizes, many events to participate in, and feels like a community. My favorite event has been either the 1 mile Fun Run or tie dyeing t-shirts!”

 

 

Miranda McClure

Major: Liberal Arts-2+2 Psychology

Hometown: Atkins, AR

Interests: Attending sporting events her children are involved in. 🏀🏈⚽

Her favorite thing about UACCM is the faculty. “They are always willing to help the students.” Miranda’s favorite event at UACCM is Field Day: “I love wiffle ball!”
