UACCM to Co-Host Rural Workforce Development Summit
The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton and the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute are teaming up to host the Rural Workforce Development-Southern Region Summit, a two-day event where players in rural economies can convene and collaborate on ways to increase workforce opportunities.
The summit will take place at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute and the Workforce Training Center, located at the UACCM campus. The event will occur on November 5-6.
The 2020 Rural Workforce Development Southern Region Summit is a convening for rural partners to identify and share innovative practices, opportunities, and resources they can use to address changes in workforce dynamics. Created in partnership with UACCM and USDA Rural Development Innovation Center Partnership Division, the 2020 Summit creates space for educators, business representatives, legislators, health care workers, nonprofit professionals, and public servants from the Southeastern United States to come together to share best practices and learn from others, both within and across sectors.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet, in-person or virtually, potential collaborators and identify actions they can take in their own work and in their communities to improve local economies.
The impact from the inaugural Summit continues to reverberate. Highlights include:
- A construction apprenticeship working group was formed to share program ideas and funding opportunities
- The Farm Bureau and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) held a meeting with veterans on the development of a workforce transition guide
