UACCM Offers Classes to the Community

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton’s Department of Workforce Development and Community Education will offer several new non-credit courses this fall. These are designed for self-improvement, continuing your education, learning a new hobby, or just having fun. The exciting slate of classes for the spring includes classes on art, crafts, cake decorating, and more.

There are no admission requirements for any course, but those interested in attending can register by going to www.uaccm.edu/workforce.

Feb. 25 – 27: HeartSaver CPR & First Aid (Tuesday & Thursday, 5:50 p.m. - 9 p.m.)
  • This is the American Heart Association HeartSaver CPR and First Aid course. This class meets the DHS requirement for Arkansas foster and adoptive parents. This is a total of 7 hours of training over 2 nights.
  • Registration is $75. 
Feb. 25 – Mar. 10: Cake Decorating: Level 1 (Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Five-night class)
  • Learn how to save money and impress your family by learning how to decorate cakes and have a lot of fun in the process! This creative cake decorating class is for the beginner who wants to have fun creating cakes for every occasion. In this class, participants will learn how to make a tasty icing; and you will learn many simple decorating techniques.
  • Registration is $40.
Mar. 3 – Apr. 7: Beginning Quilting (Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:50 p.m. – 9 p.m.; 11-night class)
  • BYOM! Bring your own sewing machine and learn how to quilt from a local quilter. After only nine 2-hour classes, you can walk away with a completed quilted throw.
  • Registration is $68.
Mar. 10: Simple Block Printing (Black & White) (6 p.m. – 9 p.m.)
  • Explore the possibilities of simple print making in this fun class. All work will be completed in black & white. Students should wear appropriate clothing as print making can be messy, and the ink is permanent.
  • Registration is $15.
Mar. 12: Oil Painting Project & Critique (6 p.m. – 8 p.m.)
  • This class is available to oil painters who want to master their craft. While working on their own painting piece, students will learn how to self-critique to enhance their work. Students will bring all supplies for this one night class.
  • Registration is $10.
Mar. 16: Mandala Meditation (6 p.m. – 8 p.m.)
  • Learn how to draw your own mandalas while also learning how to focus your thoughts. This is a fun and easy class that will help you unwind and de-stress.
  • Registration is $10.
Mar. 17 – Apr. 2: Knitting: Basic Sock by Recipe (Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Four-night class)
  • Learn how to create traditional socks by using your own design. Basic knitting skills are required for this class.
  • Registration is $30.
Apr. 6 – Apr. 27: Plein Air Watercolor (Mondays, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.)
  • This class will be held in 4 different locations to student different environments. Painting in situation is a great way to capture life. The first night, the class will meet on the UACCM campus.
  • Registration is $30
Apr. 7 – Apr. 21: Cake Decorating: Level 2 (Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.)
  • If you have previously taken our Basic Cake Decorating class with Ms. Stanek or just finished the Cake Decorating: Level 1 class, then you are ready to go to the next level of cake decorating. This class will allow you to practice your skill and have fun too.
  • Registration is $30.
Apr. 7 – Apr. 28: Paper Cross Sculpture (Mondays, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Four-night class)
  • Explore the world of paper mache while creating a classic, stone-look cross. Most of the supplies are included in the cost of this course, expect paint & brushes.
  • Registration is $40.
Apr. 9 – Apr. 30: Intro to Pastels (Thursdays, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Four-night class)
  • Learn how to use color in this art class on pastels. There will be 4 fun and easy projects that will help you learn the basics.
  • Registration is $30.
Apr. 21 – May 7: Intermediate Quilting (Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Six-night class)
  • BYOM! Bring your own sewing machine and learn accurate strip piecing to create flying geese blocks. The registration includes your pattern; and you can pick your quilt size: throw, queen, or king.
  • Registration is $55.
May 5 – May 14: Crochet: Corner to Corner Graphgan Project (Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Four-night class)
  • Crochet a lap or baby blanket while learning to follow a graph to create a beautiful pattern.
  • Registration is $30.
