The Parker Automotive
Group, which operates car dealerships in Little Rock, is offering a scholarship
to UACCM Automotive Service Technology students. The Parker Cadillac Automotive
Scholarship, housed within the UACCM Foundation, provides an internship and
covers all tuition and fees. Rufus Phillips of Little Rock is the scholarship’s
first recipient.
The scholarship
will be awarded to one student pursing an Associate of Applied Science degree.
Qualifying recipients must have completed 30 credit hours and have a 3.0
cumulative GPA. A student may be a full or part time student to qualify.
The Parker
Cadillac Scholarship is dynamic
financial support that values field experience. Students
first gain a summer internship at Parker Cadillac’s service department, where
they apply their classwork and work alongside current professionals in the
field. Once the internship is completed, Parker Cadillac covers the student’s
full tuition costs and all mandatory and program-specific fees beginning the
following fall. The scholarship may be renewed until the student’s graduation.
“UACCM is
excited about this internship and scholarship opportunity for our Automotive
Service Technology program students,” said Howard West, one of program’s
instructors.
“This internship has the potential to add funding, via
individually-based performance scholarships, for students who are completing an
Associate of Applied Science degree at UACCM. Another consideration of great
significance is a student will work in an OEM auto service department in the
field, learning how to work through problems with other professionals.”
