UACCM to Host Job Fair on February 13, 2016
The
University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will be hosting a FREE job
fair on February 13, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. with free lunch included. Information sessions will be offered on the
hour, from 9:00 a.m. – noon, for those interested in getting more information
about both short-term training programs and the college’s credit programs. While the Fair is designed for those who are
currently unemployed, all are invited to attend.
Businesses
from the following counties have been invited to be available to fair
participants: Conway, Perry, Van Buren,
Pope, Yell, and Faulkner Counties. The full list of businesses can be found at www.uaccm.edu/jobfair. This website will also have event information,
and it will be updated continuously as new businesses commit to participating.
In
addition to connecting workers to potential employers, UACCM will be announcing
new short-term workforce training programs that will be offered free of charge
to dislocated workers and those who are long-term unemployed, made possible by
an Arkansas Sector Partnership Grant.
UACCM is currently working with employers to identify their immediate
hiring needs and will quickly create training that enables participants to meet
those needs and assist them in obtaining employment, making a living wage, upon
completion.
Diana
Arn, Vice Chancellor for Academic Services, said, “The University of Arkansas
Community College at Morrilton has for years made it a priority to do whatever
possible to help the unemployed and with the recent announcements from major
employers in our service area it is incumbent upon us to be leaders in the
community moving forward to help the unemployed find work. We want any person in need of a job to
benefit from this Job Fair, regardless of their desire to participate in
UACCM’s curriculum.”
As
part of the Fair, UACCM will also be hosting the Governor’s Dislocated Worker
Task Force Mobile Unit. This Mobile
Workforce Center has full internet connectivity and is equipped with computers,
printers, copiers and fax machines. It includes a computer with access to Jobs
Application With Speech (JAWS) software and is handicapped accessible.
Fair participants may be provided assistance on drafting resumes and letters of
application, effective interviewing skills, productive job search techniques
and Arkansas Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) assessments.
