UACCM Partners with American Red Cross to Host Blood Drive
The
University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will host a community
blood drive with the American Red Cross on October 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00
p.m. west of the Kirk Building on the UACCM campus.
Anyone
interested in donating blood can make an appointment in advance or walk-in at
their convenience. For more information
or to make an appointment to donate, sign up online at www.redcross.org/blood
or at bit.ly/UACCMbd15.
“Hosting
a blood drive coincides with UACCM’s core values of giving back to the
community,” said Chief Information Officer Mary Clark. “With a simple blood
donation, we have the ability to help save the life of someone who could be a
coworker, loved one or neighbor.”
Blood
is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With
someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be
constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross. Blood is routinely
transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ
transplant recipients and trauma victims. The short amount of time it takes to
donate can mean a lifetime to a patient with a serious medical condition.
Donors
of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B
negative and A negative. According to the Red Cross, type O negative is the
universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used
to treat trauma patients.
