UACCM TO SHOW ‘AMERICAN SNIPER’ FOR FREE MOVIE NIGHT

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will show “American Sniper” next Tuesday, May 19, for Starlight Cinema, a free community movie night. The movie will start at sundown, around 8:30 p.m., on the lawn outside the Fine Arts Auditorium at UACCM.

The free event is not ticketed, and guests should bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. A free concession stand will open at 8:15 p.m. with popcorn and drinks while supplies last. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors to the Fine Arts Auditorium.

This film was selected for Starlight Cinema as a tribute to veterans and in honor of Memorial Day. “American Sniper” is a biopic of Chris Kyle (played by Bradley Cooper), the most-celebrated sniper in American military history. In the aftermath of 9/11, Kyle decides to serve his country by becoming a Navy SEAL. The closer he gets to achieving his goals during repeat tours of duty, the more fellow soldiers he sees die, and the further he drifts from his wife and their two children back home. Unfortunately, all is not well as Kyle struggles to make the transition back to civilian life, but he discovers that helping his fellow veterans is an effective way to do good and make peace with his wartime experiences.

"American Sniper" is a Warner Bros. film and has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of American for strong and disturbing war violence and language throughout including some sexual references.  The movie has a 132 minute run time.

In addition to the May 19th showing of “American Sniper,” the tentative summer lineup for Starlight Cinema at UACCM is as follows:
  • June 16- “Grease”
  • July 14- “Furious 7”
  • August 11- “Avengers Age of Ultron”
