HUNDREDS ATTEND UACCM COMMUNITY DAY
Despite the dreary weather on Sunday, nearly one thousand guests were estimated to have attended the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Community Day. The event concluded UACCM’s official 50th anniversary celebration since the college opened its doors in 1963 and graduated its first class in 1964.
Community Day began with an information session for prospective students and their families to learn more about educational programs and services, including financial aid, counseling, tutoring, and campus life. Three $100 book scholarships were given away as door prizes. Winners were Mary Camp, Angelia Bernhardt, and Trever Hogrefe. After the drawing, the 250 participants from the information session split into groups for campus tours.
Following the information session, the entire UACCM campus was open to the public with different activities held in many departments throughout campus. Among the most popular of these activities was a skills competition between auto collision and welding students; various student projects, demonstrations and displays; the Arkansas Arts Center ArtMobile; information tables showing many of the college’s available services; and a display of 50 years of UACCM memorabilia. Several vendors who support UACCM’s technical programs were on campus as well providing information and giveaways to visitors.
Many alumni were in attendance and participated in photos arranged by decade of each graduating class. Among them was Sunny Cooper, an alumna of the first graduating class of Petit Jean Vo-Tech in 1964.
The Plaza, UACCM’s dining facility, was full throughout the event, and treats served by its staff, including cookies, wraps, and Philly cheesesteak bites, were very popular among guests. Representatives from the UACCM Alumni Association, Community and Adult Education, Career Pathways, and Admissions were also available inside the Plaza.
Guests had the opportunity to win several door prizes by visiting different departments on campus, including an iPad Air donated by Follett, College House, and the UACCM University Bookstore. The much anticipated drawing for the iPad and other prizes concluded the day’s activities, and Lexi Stiles was the winner of the iPad.
UACCM Chief Information Officer Mary Clark said, “Community Day provided a perfect opportunity to say thank you to all those who have supported the college for the past 50 years and share our plans to continue providing a skilled workforce in the future.”
UACCM thanks everyone who participated in Community Day for their continued support of the college’s commitment to excellence in learning and personal enrichment. For more information about UACCM and all that is offered there, visit www.uaccm.edu.
