TRIKE-A-THON AT UACCM TOTALS $4,000 FOR ST. JUDE’S

Through the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon, the Earle Love Child Study Center at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton raised $324 in April to support the research and treatment of childhood cancer and other deadly diseases while teaching riding-toy safety tips. This year’s Trike-A-Thon brought donations collected by the ELCSC to a total of $4,000 since children there began participating in 2002.

The annual fundraiser is a week-long program where kids learn riding safety skills while raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers. On April 19, kids brought their tricycles and riding toys to school where they practiced the safety rules learned throughout the week.

“This is the twelfth year that the Earle Love Child Study Center has participated in the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon program,” said Karen Fielder, event coordinator and director of the ELCSC. “We are excited to host the program every year, because it is a fun activity that we can easily incorporate into our existing enrichment programs. Not only did we teach our children valuable safety lessons, we taught them how they could help kids like them who are battling cancer and other diseases.”

UACCM campus police officers blocked off a parking area near the center for the children to participate in the Trike-a-Thon. The kids brought their tricycles, scooters, and bicycles to school with them to implement their newly-learned safety tips.

Because no family is ever denied treatment from St. Jude due to an inability to pay, funds from public fundraisers such as the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon help the hospital’s mission of finding cures and saving children. Since its inception in 1983, the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon program has raised more than $87 million.
