Zimmerman Represents UACCM at Arkansas 2032

University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton student Cody Zimmerman was selected from a large number of applicants to represent UACCM at the “Arkansas 2032” leadership conference hosted by the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service. Student representatives from each of Arkansas’ public and private, two-year and four-year colleges and universities were invited to attend. Students selected from each school were required to have a record of academic excellence, a display of strong leadership, and to enjoy engaging in issue and policy discussions. “Arkansas 2032” was held to prepare the student representatives to draft a written proposal of recommendations and suggestions on how to improve upon Arkansas’ economic development, higher education, public health, race relations, the aging population, and K-12 education. Over the course of two full days, Zimmerman, along with rest of the students, took part in various breakout sessions and discussion panels focused on each of those topics. During the conclusion of the conference, the participants agreed upon presenting the following recommendations for a better Arkansas by the year 2032 to many state elected officials and community leaders: a sales tax for higher education, extending legislative term limits, encouraging regional collaboration in economic development and expanding the "Natural State" branding campaign to promote healthy lifestyles. “This opportunity has opened many doors for me and has allowed me to gain many new friends and mentors.” said Zimmerman. UACCM has also recognized Zimmerman as “Social Sciences Student of the Year” at the annual “Salute to Excellence” awards. Zimmerman stated,“Based on my experiences (at UACCM), it is safe to say that my time here has truly been ‘a journey with meaning.”
