It was Greek to them...

Two UACCM instructors spent their break leading a group of 14 students and community members through an adventure-packed and educational nine day tour through Greece—and they lived to tell about it. Instructors Lyndsey Daniel and Karen Caig teamed up with EF Tours to offer the spring break trip, which included stops in Athens, Delphi, Olympia, Epidarus, and several other historic locales.

While the task of leading 14 travelers through a foreign country may seem daunting to some, Daniel said “the local guides at each site did a great job of telling us what we were looking at. From the moment our fabulous tour guide Rob met us at the airport, we all felt at ease. He not only made our travel run smoothly, he always made us laugh while teaching us about the current culture and the ancient history of Greece.” In Athens, the group experienced both ancient and modern Greek culture, and in Olympia, the group saw the original torch lighting area and ran in the ancient Olympic stadium. Other highlights included the temple in Delphi, where the ancient oracle handed down prophecies, and the Lion’s Gate in Mycenae.

Caig said “I am so proud of the way the students represented UACCM, Arkansas, and the United States during the trip.” Five UACCM students took part in the tour, including nursing major Kylee Hickey, who said “The 9 day trip to Greece was worth every single penny. We had an amazing opportunity to see all of the historical sites that we have studied in History and World Literature classes since elementary school.” She added that “The trip to Greece is a memory I will never forget.”

The Greece tour may have just ended, but Daniel and Caig are already planning their next overseas adventure. They will be leading a group to explore Japan in May 2010. During this trip, travelers will be able to choose to take a 3-hour humanities course on Japan in addition to the trip.

The trip will feature round-trip airfare, 7 overnight stays in hotels with private bathrooms, breakfast and dinner daily, a full-time bilingual EF Tour Director, 2 sightseeing tours in Tokyo and Kyoto, and visits to the Meiji Shinto Shrine, Asakusa Kannon Temple, Nijo Castle, Heian Shrine and Garden, Gold Pavilion, Osaka Castle, a Sumida River cruise, and more.
