George Kress Foundation Contributes $20,000 to School Counts!

On Monday, Matt Szymanski, Vice President and General Manager of the Arkansas Kraft Division of Green Bay Packaging, Dave Cawein, Vice President and General Manager of the Fiber Resource Division and Pinecrest Lumber Division, and Miles Lacy, Vice President and Manager of Oil and Gas Programs, presented the Conway County School Counts! initiative a check for $20,000.  The presentation was made on behalf of the George Kress Foundation.  Green Bay Packaging was originally founded by George Kress.  The Kress Foundation was organized as a means of providing support to the communities in which the company operates.  Accepting the check were Todd Haynes, Chair of the School Counts! Finance Committee, and Steering Committee members Patty Shipp and Thomas Flowers.  The funds will be used to support the scholarship endowment fund.

In making the presentation, Lacy said, “Green Bay Packaging, through the generosity of the George Kress Foundation, is pleased to support the Conway County School Counts! initiative with this contribution.  This initiative will benefit our community and this area by making it possible for more of our county’s youth to continue their education beyond high school.”
Haynes thanked Green Bay Packaging and the Kress Foundation for their contribution to the endowment fund.  Haynes said, “The School Counts! initiative emphasizes the importance of education to our community’s economic development by ensuring an available and qualified workforce.  Not only will this initiative make it possible for more students to continue their education beyond high school, but the importance of education and the attitude that school counts is emphasized to students as early as kindergarten and first grade.  The investment by the George Kress Foundation will help fund the endowment that will provide a permanent source of financial support for the initiative.”
The endowment is held with the Arkansas Community Foundation, of which the Conway County Community Foundation is an affiliate.  The goal is to raise one million dollars.  For more information, please visit the School Counts! website at http://www.ccschoolcounts.org.
