Congressman Snyder Visits UACCM Petroleum Technology Program

While visiting Morrilton recently, U.S. Congressman Vic Snyder toured the petroleum technology department at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton. Snyder requested the tour to find out more about the growing program, which trains individuals to work in the natural gas industry.

Snyder spoke with petroleum technology instructors Jeff Lambert, Curt Hippensteel, and Ron Walsmith, as well as college administrators about the program’s curriculum and training equipment. The Congressman also talked at length with Sheryl Wade, a petroleum technology student preparing for graduation in December.
Upon completion of the tour, Snyder noted the importance of the college’s training program, remarking, “Formal career training and the productivity of the industry go hand in hand. The industry can only thrive if the human resource aspect thrives, and it’s obvious from what I’ve seen here at the College that the people component is flourishing.”
After only three years of existence, UACCM’s petroleum technology department has grown to an enrollment of 141 students and is currently the third largest program at the college.
