College Offers "Southern Charm" Vacation to Community

A Multimedia Presentation Detailing The Trip To Be Held Thursday, November 20, 2008
The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton is making preparations to lead a group of interested individuals to explore South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida during the “Southern Charm” guided vacation tour. The seven-day tour, scheduled for May 24 through May 30, 2009, is open to participants from the community of all ages.
The tour, led by a professional tour guide provided by Collette Vacations, will first include a stop in historic Charleston, where participants will visit Fort Sumter , the area where the first shots of the Civil War were fired in 1861. Also in Charleston is one of America’s oldest working plantations, Boone Hall Plantation, where travelers will be guided through the remarkable preserved slave cabins and the extensive grounds. The tour continues with destinations including the “Queen of the Carolina Sea Islands,” also known as Beaufort, Georgia, and beautiful Savannah, which is home of the largest National Historic Landmark district in the United States. The tour eventually leads to Jekyll Island, where a stroll along the cobblestone-paved Factors Walk and River Street lead to Georgia coast marshlands, rivers, and beaches. St. Simons Island is also included in the tour of Georgia, where travelers can view its striking lighthouse and the Museum of Coastal History. The destinations of St. Augustine and Jacksonville, Florida round out the trip, with stops in the Old Spanish Quarter, historic Bayfront, and the Plaza de la Consitucion.
The tour includes 10 meals throughout the trip, hotel transfers, airport shuttle from Morrilton to Little Rock, roundtrip airfare from Little Rock Regional Airport, and cancellation waiver insurance, as well as air taxes, fees, and surcharges.
A multimedia presentation detailing the trip for any interested parties will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 5:30 pm in the UACCM Fine Arts Auditorium. Refreshments will be served in the Fine Arts Gallery beginning at 5:00 pm. For more information, contact Kristi Strain at (501) 977-2085 or at strain@uaccm.edu.
