UACCM Breaks Ground for New Library Complex

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton broke ground on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 on a $3.9 million, 26,000-square-foot library complex located on the north side of campus. UACCM Chancellor Nathan Crook and members of the College Board of Visitors were on hand for the groundbreaking, which was attended by students, faculty, and staff.

The complex will feature approximately 15,000-square-feet of library space, seven general-use classrooms, and 10 faculty offices, and will be funded through proceeds from the Arkansas Higher Education Technology and Facility Improvement Act of 2005. In 2006, Arkansans voted to approve this act, which allowed for the issuance of $250 million in higher education bonds for technology and other capital improvements for Arkansas' colleges and universities. The complex was designed by Fennell Purifoy Hammock Architects of Little Rock and will be constructed by G.A.G. Builders, Inc. of Cabot.
The complex will include the new E. Allen Gordon Library to replace the current library on campus which was last renovated in April of 1994. Since then, UACCM has experienced a 250 percent increase in enrollment. Expanded services provided in the new library will include group study rooms, Wi-Fi connections, and increased space for library materials and expanded seating for individual study.
UACCM Librarian Leroy Gattin said “The new and expanded E. Allen Gordon Library will allow UACCM to better meet the information needs of our students and will help the College remain competitive in today’s educational market. Our students deserve a world-class facility that will help continue and expand the College’s educational excellence and advancement.” The new library is set to be completed in the fall of 2009.
