UACCM Board Members Attend Trustee Day
University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Board of Visitors members Raye Pearce and A.O. Thompson recently attended a Trustee Day co-sponsored by the University of Arkansas Foundation, Arkansas State University System, Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges, the University of Central Arkansas, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The event, attended by approximately 150 people, was held to provide board members of higher education institutions the opportunity to communicate with legislators and learn more about the complex dynamics of higher education funding and operations.

Their remarks were followed by a presentation by Arkansas Department of Higher Education Director Dr. Linda Beene who provided an overview of current higher education legislative issues. Legislative liaisons who represent various colleges and universities during the legislative session gave insight into some of the current issues most critical to higher education interests.
The group then traveled to the Governor’s Conference Room at the State Capital where they were greeted by Governor Mike Beebe. Governor Beebe reaffirmed his commitment to higher education.

Following the Governor’s remarks, Pearce and Thompson attended a luncheon sponsored by the University of Arkansas System Office. U of A System President Dr. B. Alan Sugg hosted the luncheon for the two-year and four-year colleges affiliated with the System. Legislators representing districts in each of the colleges’ and universities’ service areas were invited to attend the luncheon and visit one-on-one with college trustees.
State Representative Johnny Hoyt joined Pearce and Thompson at the luncheon. They were also accompanied by UACCM Director of Institutional Advancement Mary Clark.
