The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton invites the community to its 13 th annual Night of Luminaries, Thursday, Dec. 3, following the Morrilton Christmas parade.  This free, family-friendly event is expected to start around 6:00 p.m. or as soon as Santa Claus can make his way from the parade to UACCM. The Timberwolf Crossing Walking Trail will be lined with more than 1,300 luminary bags, decorated by Conway County children, and the community is invited to walk through to view the artwork on the beautifully lit bags. Also enjoy cookies and hot cocoa served by UACCM faculty and staff to all who attend the event.  Participating schools and organizations that helped in decorating luminary bags include Conway County Center for Exceptional Children, Morrilton Elementary, Morrilton Intermediate, Morrilton Primary, Nemo Vista Elementary, Sacred Heart Elementary, Wonderview Elementary, and Riverview Baptist Christian School. University of Arkansas Community College in Morrilton received a generous donation towards the Give Meaning Campaign from Mr. Bob Coffman.  Mr. Coffman donated $5,000 to the campaign in memory of Bonnie Lea Poteet Coffman, his late wife, and Virgil and Sybil Poteet, his late parents-in-law.  Mr. Coffman’s support of the Give Meaning Campaign goes back to the beginning with his willingness to sell UACCM the land that expanded the campus boundary on the west side of campus by 7.87 acres and is the planned site for the Workforce Training Center.  Chancellor Davis said, “Bob Coffman’s continued support of the Give Meaning campaign and the Workforce Training Center has allowed us to create a highly visible center that will offer the training needed in a growing market for skilled trades.” The Give Meaning Campaign is a UACCM Foundation campaign to support four major UACCM initiatives that include construction of the Workforce Training Center, an endowment for new facili...

University of Arkansas Community College in Morrilton recognized award winning faculty, staff, and students at the Arkansas Community Colleges Conference on November 4, 2015 at the Hot Springs Convention Center. Outstanding Faculty of the Year was awarded to Anthony Holt.  Holt began his teaching career as a graduate student 24 years ago when he was working toward his Wildlife Management degree at Arkansas State University.  While continuing his Master of Science, he was asked to fill in as a lecturer at UACCM and has been there ever since.  Anthony teaches Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and Biology.  Brigitte Brents, payroll officer, was awarded Outstanding Staff of the Year.  Always wearing a smile, she has a great work ethic and the best attitude, going above and beyond to ensure payroll is completed on time and accurately.  Prior to joining UACCM four years ago, Brents worked in banking at Regions Bank for 30 years.  She has lived in Co...

University of Arkansas Community College in Morrilton will be hosting the Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park on November 17 th .  Sponsored by UACCM’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, this free event is offered as part of Native American Heritage Month.  Amy Griffin, park interpreter will present the program Historic Tribes of Arkansas and will also have the Native American Tools and Weapons Demonstration.  In addition, Griffin will have native mammal fur on display for attendees to pass around. Griffin is a graduate of Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation and Parks Administration and is a certified interpretive guide. Following a fall semester where the University of Arkansas Community College in Morrilton saw a 2.5 percent increase in enrollment, many Arkansas colleges saw a decline, UACCM has been awarded two major grants to support the commitment to providing training opportunities relevant to employers’ needs in high-demand, high-wage areas of the job market. With 49% of skilled trade workers being 45 years or older, according to the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce, these grants will help UACCM fill the skills gap created by an aging workplace.  UACCM Chancellor Dr. Larry Davis said, “These grants will allow UACCM to continue to be a state leader in providing technical training to fill the job vacancies created by the large group of retirees over the next decade as well as address the growing skills gap in Arkansas.” The first of these grants is the U.S. Department of Labor Grant, awarded by the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services.  A total of $714,849.67 was awarded to UA...
