Image
Summer is normally a time when the last place a child wants to be is at school… until now! The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Community Education Center is bringing back Kids College. Children entering first through third grades can experience a full week of imagination, education, and fun at UACCM this summer! Through educational adventures from the Great Plains to the Great Barrier Reef, they will revisit the days of the Pony Express and explore the coast of Australia. Parents can choose one of two weeks, July 8-11 or July 15-18, for their child to join in the summer fun at Kids College. Classes start at 8:00 a.m. each day and end at 2:30 p.m. in the UACCM Kirk Building Rooms 116-119. The cost to attend the four-day excursion is $70 per child. Participating children should bring a sack lunch and an afternoon snack Monday through Wednesday, but pizza will be served on Thursday. There are only 40 openings each week, and spots are filled on a first-come...

CHANGES TO GED TEST IN 2014

Image
http://www.uaccm.edu/Community/Adult%20Education.htm Arkansas was one of a few states that offered the General Educational Development (GED®) test at no cost to the student, but because of changes on the national level that require state-level compliance, that has changed. As it is currently, the same test battery is administered nationwide, but how each state handles the funding and whether test-takers pay a fee varies. “The new test will cost more money than Arkansas has traditionally been able to absorb, therefore, some of the test’s costs will be borne by the student beginning in 2014,” Hanlon said. The cost of the GED® exam for students is now $16.00. The program is under the authority of the Arkansas Department of Career Education and serves Arkansans who are 16 years or older, not enrolled in or graduated from high school, and who meet other state requirements regarding residency and testing eligibility. “The GED® test is undergoing a significant change in Arkansas a...

UACCM PURCHASED 7.87 ACRES FOR EXPANSION

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton has taken its first big step toward expanding its campus westward in anticipation of constructing a new workforce training center. The newly purchased land is shown in green with black stripes. The surrounding area is not currently owned by UACCM. The College recently purchased 7.87 acres of land, located on the northeast corner of Poor Farm Road and University Boulevard, from Bob Coffman. The property is within the planning boundaries of the UACCM campus and is the expected site of the planned facility. UACCM Chancellor Dr. Larry Davis and Vice Chancellor for Administration Dr. Linda Birkner had been working on the purchase for quite some time, but the University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees officially approved the purchase Feb. 1 in Little Rock. Coffman and UACCM closed on the property April 11 completing the transaction. “This land purchase is another step toward the success of our capital campaig...

UACCM SPRING 2013 GRADUATES

Image
The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton announces its spring 2013 graduates. Commencement ceremonies were held Saturday, May 11, at the H.B. White Auditorium of Morrilton High School. UACCM outgrew its facilities to host graduation on its campus some years ago, and the South Conway County School District School Board allows the College to hold its commencement ceremonies in the auditorium at the high school. Even still, the faculty, staff, administration, family, and friends who gather to show their support to graduates exceed the capacity of the auditorium. For this reason, UACCM held two ceremonies, the first at 10:00 a.m. and the second at 1:00 p.m. Former United States Senator and University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees member David Pryor attended the 10:00 a.m. ceremony and congratulated graduates with words of encouragement. Also present at that ceremony was Dr. Leroy Cox of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith who awarded UACCM University B...

Faculty members then selected those students who have worked to go above and beyond in both the classroom and college community. “It is an honor to be able to give special recognition to this group of outstanding students at UACCM,” Chief Information Officer Mary Clark said. “These individuals represent the high-quality of students who attend our college, and this event is one of the highlights of the year for faculty and staff.” Linda Zambrano, UACCM Business Instructor and ceremony committee member, added, “It is important to recognize the success of students and their contributio...
