Gideon Frieder was the seventh Holocaust survivor speaker to share his story in Central Arkansas in the past seven years at a series of events hosted by the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton and the University of Central Arkansas. During his two days in Morrilton and Conway, Frieder spoke to three groups totalling more than 1,700 people. Gideon Frieder spoke to 900 students at MHS March 10. The event is coordinated each year by UACCM and UCA through the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. Frieder is a survivor volunteer at the museum. For his first appearance in Central Arkansas, Frieder spoke at UCA's Farris Center to an estimated 600 attendees. The James E. “Rock” and Bonnie Hagans Irrevocable Trust and the Hagans Family made a $25,000 contribution to the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Foundation “Give Meaning” campaign last week.  Hagans Dodge Chrysler Jeep Motors made an additional pledge of $25,000 to bring the total gift to $50,000 from the Hagans Family.  The gift brings the total raised in the campaign to more than $2 million. The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton announces this year’s first “Starlight Cinema,” a free community movie night. The event will feature “Big Hero 6” Tuesday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the UACCM campus. For this feature, UACCM is partnering with Community Service, Inc. to host a special smoke-free movie event. In an effort to promote health and wellness, this unique event features a movie that depicts no use of tobacco products, a practice that is commonly shown on the silver screen. Community Service Tobacco Prevention Coordinator Shannon Cook will be on-site with a display of literature and educational aids depicting the harmful effects of tobacco-use. Prior to show time, ads created by Arkansas students through the Big Pitch Film Festival will be shown. Members of the Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund (FSSF) Board presented a $96,000 contribution Thursday to the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton. The donation will be split between scholarships for UACCM students studying petroleum technology and the UACCM Foundation’s ‘GIVE MEANING’ campaign. 2015 FSSF recipients who study Petroleum Technology at UACCM FSSF President Caleb Knight announced the gift at an event at the college last week, allocating $48,000 for scholarships and $48,000 for construction of the new Workforce Training Center at UACCM. The contribution brings the total donated by the FSSF to $850,000 since its inception in 2006. To date, a total of 1,053 certificates and degrees have been awarded to 430 individual students in the petroleum technology program, largely due to scholarships awarded by the FSSF. Entergy has awarded a $10,000 grant to the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Foundation “Give Meaning” campaign. Grant funds will be used to support the new Workforce Training Center at UACCM as well as scholarships and academic programs. The UACCM Foundation Board announces plans for its 10th annual “Links for Learning” golf tournament to be held May 21 at the Morrilton Country Club.  The three-man-scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 10:00 am. The Foundation is seeking teams and sponsors for this year’s tournament.  The entry fee is $300 per three-person team and includes: two mulligans per player, goody bags, cart, lunch, and beverages on the course.  Petit Jean Meats gift boxes will be awarded to winners in three flights.  Sponsorships are available at levels from $100 to $4,000. There will be a golf ball drop at the end of the tournament.  Tickets are available for $10 and a cash prize of up to $1000 will be awarded to the person with the number that drops closest to the hole.  Purchaser of the winning ball need not be present to win. This September marks 70 years since the end of World War II, which concluded a horrendous time in our world’s history known as the Holocaust. The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton and the University of Central Arkansas are proud to announce that Gideon Frieder, a Holocaust survivor, will visit Morrilton and Conway in March for three speaking appearances.
