ENTERGY AWARDS $10,000 TO UACCM FOUNDATION

Entergy has awarded a $10,000 grant to the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Foundation “Give Meaning” campaign. Grant funds will be used to support the new Workforce Training Center at UACCM as well as scholarships and academic programs. Entergy Regional Customer Service Manager Jim Garland, right, presented the grant check to UACCM Chancellor Dr. Larry Davis, from left, UACCM Foundation Chair Doug Cahill, Development Officer Morgan Zimmerman, and UACCM Foundation Co-Chair Steve Trowbridge. The award is part of the Entergy Charitable Foundation’s grant program whose goal is to support initiatives that help create and sustain thriving communities. UACCM FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 10TH ANNUAL ‘LINKS FOR LEARNING’

The UACCM Foundation Board announces plans for its 10th annual “Links for Learning” golf tournament to be held May 21 at the Morrilton Country Club.  The three-man-scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 10:00 am. The Foundation is seeking teams and sponsors for this year’s tournament.  The entry fee is $300 per three-person team and includes: two mulligans per player, goody bags, cart, lunch, and beverages on the course.  Petit Jean Meats gift boxes will be awarded to winners in three flights.  Sponsorships are available at levels from $100 to $4,000. There will be a golf ball drop at the end of the tournament.  Tickets are available for $10 and a cash prize of up to $1000 will be awarded to the person with the number that drops closest to the hole.  Purchaser of the winning ball need not be present to win. HOLOCAUST SPEAKER RETURNS TO CENTRAL ARKANSAS

This September marks 70 years since the end of World War II, which concluded a horrendous time in our world’s history known as the Holocaust. The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton and the University of Central Arkansas are proud to announce that Gideon Frieder, a Holocaust survivor, will visit Morrilton and Conway in March for three speaking appearances. Read more about Gideon here. Frieder is a speaker volunteer with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. He will speak at 7:00 p.m. on March 9 at the Farris Center on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas. On March 10, he will share his story at 9:45 a.m. at the H.B. White Auditorium on the Morrilton High School campus. For his final appearance, at 6:30 p.m. on March 10, Frieder will speak at the Fine Arts Auditorium at UACCM. UACCM TO HOST PHILANDER SMITH CHOIR FEB. 5

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton announces the Philander Smith College Choir as its special guests for Black History Month. The choir will perform at a free community event in the Fine Arts Auditorium at UACCM on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. There are no tickets for the event.  Guests may seat themselves on a first-come, first-served basis after doors open at 5:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, updates will be posted on the UACCM Facebook page and at www.uaccm.edu.  For more information about this event, contact Mary Newsome by phone at 501-977-2044 or by email to newsome@uaccm.edu.

PERSONAL EXERCISE TRAINER CERTIFICATION OFFERED AT UACCM

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton has partnered with the National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA) for a training event March 7 and 8. A representative from NETA will conduct a “Personal Trainer Certification” professional development program at UACCM. The two-day workshop will include demonstrations and practical application for one-on-one training. NETA’s expert trainer will provide a general review of exercise science, communication skills, exercise programming, health assessments and more. A discounted registration fee of $399 is available until Feb. 4. After that date, the fee is $449. Since this is the first time a NETA program has been offered in the Morrilton area, UACCM anticipates seats will be reserved quickly. The workshop registration fee includes a written exam and two-year certificate. NETA’s Personal Trainer Certification is accredited by NCCA, which is the gold standard in the industry. PJSB PLEDGES $25,000 TO UACCM ‘GIVE MEANING’ CAMPAIGN

Petit Jean State Bank has pledged $25,000 to the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Foundation “Give Meaning” campaign. Petit Jean State Bank President Charles Penick, center, presents a $25,000 pledge to the UACCM Foundation along with Mike Dunaway, from left, Morgan Zimmerman, Susan Gunderman, UACCM Chancellor Dr. Larry Davis, Suzanne Hartman, and Mary Clark. The gift will contribute to construction costs of the Workforce Training Center at UACCM and establish a maintenance fund for the new building. The contribution qualifies for a naming opportunity for office space inside the facility. HYD-MECH DONATES SAW TO UACCM

Saw manufacturer Hyd-Mech donated a new S-23A automatic scissor style band saw to the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton for use in technical training. From left, UACCM Technology Instructor Robby Tipton accepts the training saw from HYDMECH Chief Operating Officer Mike Miller, along with Darren Jones, Robert Keeton, Diana Arn, and Greg Hunt.  The saw arrived on campus during the late fall and is the newest addition to a technology lab currently being renovated at the college to allow for expansion.  The saw will eventually be housed in UACCM’s new Workforce Training Center on the west side of campus along with many technical classrooms and state-of-the-art lab spaces. Hyd-Mech opened its Conway facility in 2005 and just recently added a showroom there as well.  Chief Operating Officer Mike Miller who works at the Ontario, Canada office and Conway Plant Manager Greg Hunt visited UACCM in November to present the saw to faculty and staff...
