NOLAN RICHARDSON TO SPEAK AT UACCM

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton announces its guest speaker for Black History Month, former Arkansas Razorback basketball coach Nolan Richardson, Jr. He will speak at the Fine Arts Auditorium of the UACCM campus Thursday, Feb. 6 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Richardson is the only basketball coach to have won a championship on every college level including the 1979 National Junior College Tournament, 1981 National Invitational Tournament and the 1994 NCAA Tournament. After spending 17 years at the University of Arkansas, he now has aspirations of coaching on the NBA level. UACCM FOUNDATION MOVES ‘JUST DESSERTS’ TO FALL

2013 Just Desserts The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Foundation will move its annual “Just Desserts” fundraiser to September beginning this year. As the foundation’s board of directors prepares for its 2014 annual fund campaign, board members decided to balance the fundraising schedule by keeping the annual “Links for Learning” golf tournament in May and moving Just Desserts to the fall. UACCM Foundation Board Secretary and 2013 “Just Desserts” Event Co-Chair Rhonda Trowbridge said, “For the past 11 years, community support has made ‘Just Desserts’ a successful fundraiser for our organization. UACCM STUDENTS INDUCTED TO PHI THETA KAPPA

Twenty-two students of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society in November.  This elite group of students is recognized each year at UACCM with an induction ceremony and reception. This year’s inductees include: Kelsi Andres, Lisa Ashlock, Thomas Browne, Marium Dupree, Charles Gray, Johnny Huff, Virgil Hampton, Tanya Hightower, Jennifer Ludwig, Lacey Nokleby, Lissa Parks, Tiffini Patrick, Sydney Purifoy, Meikale Rice, Candace Russell, Abigail Scott, Ricky Sinclair, Allen Stiles, Brenna Voyles, Thomas Walker, Linda Wendt, and Robin Wilson. Night of Luminaries rescheduled for Dec. 10

Due to the wintery weather conditions expected toward the end of this week, the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton’s 11th annual Night of Luminaries event has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 10, following the Morrilton Christmas Parade. This free, family-friendly event is expected to start around 6:00 p.m. or as soon as Santa Claus can make his way from the parade to UACCM. Because of the cool temperatures expected, Santa will be visiting with children inside the Plaza at UACCM where he will hand out gifts to all children who attend. He will be available for pictures, but parents should bring their own cameras if they want photos. UACCM faculty and staff will serve cookies, hot cocoa, and apple cider to all who attend the event. NIGHT OF LUMINARIES DEC. 5

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton invites the community to its 11th Annual Night of Luminaries, Thursday, Dec. 5, following the Morrilton Christmas parade. This free, family-friendly event is expected to start around 6:00 p.m. or as soon as Santa Claus can make his way from the parade to UACCM. To highlight the beautiful new addition of the Timberwolf Crossing walking trail to the center of the UACCM campus, the more than 2,000 luminary bags decorated by Conway County children will line the sidewalks of the trail as well as a few portions of the roads in that area. This year’s route is one that families can walk through to view the artwork on the beautifully lit bags rather than the drive-through route used in past years. Ambassador Project presentations tomorrow

Do we really see what goes on with the youth in our community? How many children are not properly cared for? Two organizations within our local community have stepped in to provide stable, loving homes for these children and give them opportunities that otherwise would never be presented to them. Please accept our personal invitation to learn more about a couple of non-profit organizations in Conway and Faulkner counties. This Thursday, November 21, 2013, the UACCM Student Ambassadors will host a ceremony to present Southern Christian Home of Morrilton, and Soaring Wings Ranch of Faulkner County with checks for $1,000 each. Directors from each of these organizations will make presentations in an effort to educate the public about their organizations and what they do. UACCM PAGEANT WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Phi Beta Lambda chapter hosted its seventh annual UACCM Pageant Saturday, Nov. 9. The pageant was open to current UACCM students and girls between the ages of birth and 17 years. The winners of the categories are as follows: 2013 Miss UACCM is Janeth Munoz of Conway, daughter of Victor and Lucila Munoz; first alternate is Lizette Munoz of Conway, daughter of Victor and Lucila Munoz; second alternate is Cierra Oade of Vilonia, daughter of Lou Ann and Blake Oade; third alternate is Victoria Rodgers of Quitman, daughter of Rhonda Rodgers; and fourth alternate is Amanda Medina of Conway, daughter of Cindy Morris. Toys for Tots Drop-Off Site

The UACCM Theatre Ensemble is participating as an official Toys for Tots drop-off site this holiday season.   Toys for children age 12 and under may be dropped off between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Fine Arts Auditorium on the UACCM campus. Toys for Tots requests new, unwrapped toys and does not accept realistic looking weapons or gifts with food.  Collections will continue through Dec. 6.
