NEW FACULTY AND STAFF FOR FALL

The fall semester has begun, and on board the exciting year ahead, the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton has some new employees who have joined us on the journey. In the Nursing Department, Amanda Beaver adds to the team her 20 years of experience as a Registered Nurse. She has worked in various intensive care units, post-anesthesia care units, and perioperative settings. Also, for five years, she managed a hospital-based hyperbaric/wound care clinic. Amanda holds an Associate of Science in Nursing from Lousiana Tech University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Women's University. Additionally,she is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Nursing Education. Originally from Oklahoma, Amanda now resides in Greenbrier where she enjoys the outdoors. UACCM GEARS UP FOR FALL

It’s not too late to enroll in fall classes at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton. Throughout the summer, UACCM has made many changes, additions and improvements to ensure the highest quality learning experience for its students. Classes at UACCM begin Monday, Aug. 19, and students can enroll in classes through Aug. 23 provided the class has not yet met. Tuition is due at the time of registration by paying in full, establishing a payment plan, or utilizing financial aid. Students may make charges to their financial aid up to twice at the University Bookstore until Aug. 26. UACCM offers technical, career and transfer degrees to students of all ages. MILES LACY TO CHAIR UACCM CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Chancellor Dr. Larry Davis announces that Miles Lacy will serve as chairman of the college’s “Give Meaning” capital campaign. Lacy currently serves as vice-president and manager of oil & gas operations and the sustainable forestry initiative coordinator of the Fiber Resource Division of Green Bay Packaging, Inc. Lacy joined the team at GBP’s Booneville office in 1975 and made the move to Morrilton in 1978. He is a member of the Morrilton Rotary Club, serves on the Conway County Regional Water Distribution District Commission, Conway County Economic Development Corporation, Morrilton Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Conway County School Counts Steering Committee, Arkansas Forestry Association Board of Directors, and the Arkansas Sustainable Forestry Initiative Implementation Committee. Academic Commons now open

UACCM Library Complex Throughout the summer, the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton has made many changes, additions and improvements.  Among the most visible of these is Timberwolf Crossing, a sidewalk project funded by a grant from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department located along the north side of campus near University Boulevard.  Another improvement that is less visible to passersby is the college's new Academic Commons, an area in the Library Complex specifically tailored to better assist students. The Academic Commons provides and combines three of the college's existing services: the E. Allen Gordon Library, tutoring services, and a science study lab.  The idea to combine these services into one department came about from student comments.  Students voiced their need for a place to go on campus during the evenings to study.  All three departments wer...

UACCM 'Learn, Preview, Nursing' Day a Success

Participants experienced the delivery of a simulated child. UACCM hosted a special "Learn, Preview, Nursing" day on July 25 to showcase the offerings of its licensed practical nursing program. Due to the high-demand of the program and with the fall semester quickly approaching, UACCM hosted the free event for anyone in the area who may be interested in the LPN program.  The day started with a presentation explaining what to expect as a nursing student featuring nursing department faculty and admissions staff.  Attendees were given a tour of the UACCM campus, an overview of the free services available to students, and assistance in completing financial aid forms. The three-hour preview also included a special session in working with high-fidelity mannequins from the nursing department's simulation lab.  This session featured the simulated birth of a child with hands-on opportunities for participants to examine the mannequins and work w...

CHANGES AT EARLE LOVE CHILD STUDY CENTER

It’s not always easy for parents to find a place where they feel comfortable leaving their child during the work day. Questions about the safety, staff, learning environment, health, cost, hours, and location are just a few of the concerns that flood a parent’s mind when searching for a child care facility that is the right fit for them and their child. The Earle Love Child Study Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton has recently undergone several changes in operation to enhance the availability of its services. Karen Fielder, director at the ELCSC, said, “We’re excited to expand our service capabilities with a new operating schedule.” Among the changes includes new operating hours of 7:15 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. The center will now be open on a year-round schedule closing only on holidays. Rates have changed as well but vary among ages of children enrolled. The center accepts children ages one to five years old and can accommodate 12 ...

TRIKE-A-THON AT UACCM TOTALS $4,000 FOR ST. JUDE’S

Through the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon, the Earle Love Child Study Center at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton raised $324 in April to support the research and treatment of childhood cancer and other deadly diseases while teaching riding-toy safety tips. This year’s Trike-A-Thon brought donations collected by the ELCSC to a total of $4,000 since children there began participating in 2002. The annual fundraiser is a week-long program where kids learn riding safety skills while raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers. On April 19, kids brought their tricycles and riding toys to school where they practiced the safety rules learned throughout the week. “This is the twelfth year that the Earle Love Child Study Center has participated in the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon program,” said Karen Fielder, event coordinator and director of the ELCSC. “We are excited to host the program every year, beca...

Credit When It's Due

With a goal set by Gov. Mike Beebe to double the number of college graduates in Arkansas by 2025, the state took another step toward that goal today by announcing an initiative to award more associate degrees to students who have completed the relevant coursework. Shane Broadway, Interim Director of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, and Dr. Ed Franklin, President of the Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges, announced the “Credit When It’s Due” initiative, a partnership between the 22 two-year colleges and all 11 four-year public universities, to award associate degrees to students who have earned the required credentials after transferring to a four-year university. The project will be funded by a $500,000 grant from the Kresge Foundation.
