Adam Day to Perform at UACCM

Singer/songwriter, Adam Day, will perform at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton. His music has been aired on several college television shows, including variety / talk-show genres at Ithaca College and Cornell University. The show is on August 21, 2012 at 11am in the Kirk Building, Room 105. Adam has shared the stage with artists, such as the Pat McGee Band, Matt Nathanson, and Jared Campbell. In 2005, Adam released his most recent album, “I Stayed Up Late to Make This.” It includes a dynamic collection of new material recorded independently. In 2010, Adam wanted to give back to the community and participated in “Rock To Rebuild,” a benefit concert for Haiti in Baltimore, MD. Adult Education Holds GED Graduation

The UACCM Adult Education Program is pleased to announce that 32 area residents earned a GED® during the 2011-2012 spring semester.  In honor of these graduates, a summer GED® Graduation Ceremony was held in the UACCM Fine Arts Auditorium on the evening of Tuesday, June 26. Following the ceremony, GED® graduates celebrated their accomplishments surrounded by family members and friends in the UACCM Plaza.  A total of 68 individuals have earned a GED® diploma during 2011-2012 program year. Arkansas is one of only a few states that currently offers the General Education Development (GED®) test at no cost to the student, but unfortunately that will soon change. Nationally, the GED® test is being updated and redesigned to reflect today’s common core educational standards. Beginning in 2014, the GED® test will be computer based with a projected fee of $120. UACCM Receives "Seven Seals Award"

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Honored by Department of Defense for Meritorious Leadership and Initiative in Support of Men and Women Who Serve in the Arkansas National Guard and Reserve North Little Rock, Arkansas – The Arkansas Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, announced today the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) was honored with an “Seven Seals Award” in recognition for meritorious leadership and initiative in support of the men and women who serve America in the in the Arkansas National Guard and Reserve. Zimmerman Represents UACCM at Arkansas 2032

University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton student Cody Zimmerman was selected from a large number of applicants to represent UACCM at the “Arkansas 2032” leadership conference hosted by the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service. Student representatives from each of Arkansas’ public and private, two-year and four-year colleges and universities were invited to attend. Students selected from each school were required to have a record of academic excellence, a display of strong leadership, and to enjoy engaging in issue and policy discussions.  “ Arkansas 2032” was held to prepare the student representatives to draft a written proposal of recommendations and suggestions on how to improve upon Arkansas’ economic development, higher education, public health, race relations, the aging population, and K-12 education. Ed Rossi Donates Book to UACCM Library

World War II veteran and former Conway County Resident Edward Rossi presented The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton with a copy of the book “On Heroic Wings: Stories of the Distinguished Flying Cross.” The book features stories of over 30 aviation heroes, including Rossi, who have received the Distinguished Flying Cross award. Rossi was raised in Center Ridge and also played American Legion Baseball in Arkansas before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in August 1942. For the next several years Rossi served as a member of the 494 Bomb Group under the command of General Douglas McArthur. He flew over 40 combat missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross as well as 6 other air medals. Because of his fond memories of growing up in Conway County, Rossi felt compelled to donate a copy of this book to UACCM Library. Links For Learning 2012

This year’s seventh annual Links for Learning Golf Tournament fundraiser for the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) Foundation was a huge success. A field of 114 golfers gathered at the Morrilton Country Club on a beautiful sunny day to compete in the three-person scramble tournament that helped raise over $20,000 in gross proceeds for the UACCM Foundation. UACCM Foundation President Doug Cahill noted, “It was a fantastic day for golf and we couldn’t have asked for a better turnout from UACCM’s supporters.” Along with the tournament, the participants were given an opportunity to show their golf skills with longest drive, closest to the pin, and putting contests. Throughout the day, teams were treated to limitless refreshments, door prizes, and all the BBQ they could eat courtesy of food sponsor Farmers & Merchants Bank and the culinary skills of Marlin Boyle. UACCM Youth Summer Programs

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) is offering several exciting options for area youth to participate in fun and educational programs during the summer months. Participants will be able to conduct science experiments, perform a musical production, or go on an imaginary journey across the Serengeti Desert! “Super Scientists” is a summer camp for those inquisitive, science-minded young students. They will experience the fun of building a scaled model of Mount Saint Helens, perform quasi-forensic analysis of "solid waste," collect and grow their own microbial cultures, perform anatomy dissections and many more memorable experiences while participating in the science camp. “Super Scientists” will be held on June 18-21 from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Lunch will be provided. The camp is $150 per child and will be open to all children who will be entering grades 4-6.
