Boyd to Present Photography Exhibit

Due to the recent inclement weather, Terry Boyd’s “Visions from Arkansas to Alaska, Part II” 35mm slide presentation has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton campus. Sponsored by the college, this exhibit is offered for free and is open to the public. Boyd, a self-taught photographer from Russellville, travels and photographs the United States, with emphasis on Alaska. He spent several months in 2007 in Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska, and will be making an interactive visual presentation of his newest images while at UACCM. Boyd has dedicated his life to his work “living one roll of slide film at a time,” and doing his best to “be in the right place in the right light.” In May, Boyd will embark on his sixth annual trip to Alaska.   Boyd will donate several pieces of art to be given away in a drawing and will also have a selection of matted 5X7 and 6X9 pr...

UACCM Sets Spring Enrollment Record

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton has reported a record-setting enrollment of 1658 students for the spring 2008 semester, an increase of 5.2 percent above the spring 2007 semester. The official report was submitted to the Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE) on the 11th class day.   Full-time students make up 65 percent of the student body. Thirty-five percent are considered part-time students, enrolled in courses ranging from 1 to 11 credit hours.  Students enrolled in technical, business, health, and service-related occupational programs account for 47 percent of the student body. Students pursing Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, two-year degrees designed for university-transfer, also account for 46 percent of credit students. Donal Featured on National TV

UACCM Financial Aid Secretary Deborah Donald recently took part in a panel discussion during “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer” that was featured on national television on AETN. The discussion focused on education in Arkansas, and Donald spoke about her experience as a dislocated worker entering UACCM as a student.

Practical Nursing Program Granted Full Approval

The practical nursing program at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton was granted full approval by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing on Wednesday, January 16. The approval was presented to Thomas Flowers, UACCM Vice Chancellor of Academic Services, Marilyn Thomas, Division Chair of Health Sciences and Adult Education, and Peggy Lee, UACCM Nursing Department Chair.  The approval was awarded to UACCM for a period of five years. Approval was contingent upon passing a recent site visit critiquing every aspect of the program. The program received no deficiencies. New PTK Members

The Beta Eta Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton recently announced 13 new members. New members include Jordan Ahne of Conway, Amanda Allred of Morrilton, Mary Barden of Wooster, James Bevier of Morrilton, Kathleen Conklin of Clinton, Shenna DuVall of Morrilton, William Ellis of Conway, Dawn Messer of Fairfield Bay, Aida Qunitero of Morrilton, Paula Riddle of Greenbrier, Vicki Shadell of Perryville, Erin Wingo of Morrilton, and Sally Wise of Conway. A formal ceremony in recognition of the new members is planned for this spring.  Established in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa is a prestigious international honor society for two-year colleges. Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund Recognized for Contributions

The Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund Inc. (FSSF) was recently presented with the Excellence in Education Award by the Morrilton Area Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented during the annual Chamber Banquet to Fund President Keith Waddell of Tiger Integrated Services and Fund Vice President George Sheffer of SEECO Inc., a subsidiary of Southwestern Energy.  The FSSF was established in 2006, and is a volunteer organization with members representing companies working in the Fayetteville Shale Play. It aims to enable individuals to pursue educational opportunities that will prepare them for jobs in the Arkansas oil and gas industry by providing financial support through scholarships, raising awareness for careers in the oil and gas industry, and creating good will for the industry and its contributions to local communities and the state.  Through fundraising efforts, the FSSF raised approximately $15,000 in its first year to provide scholarships to students enrolled ...

University Bookstore Hosts Business After Hours

UACCM’s new University Bookstore was the host for the Morrilton Area Chamber of Commerce December Business After Hours. The networking event was held on December 4, and was attended by Chamber members, bookstore and UACCM staff, and other guests.  Michelle Denham, University Bookstore Manager, welcomed guests to the event with an overview of what goods and services the bookstore has to offer and introduced the members of her staff. UACCM Chancellor Nathan Crook and UACCM Vice Chancellor for Finance Linda Birkner then presented several door prizes to those in attendance.  Guests were treated to hors d’oeuvres prepared by the UACCM Plaza, and were offered tours of the new facility, which offers apparel, textbooks, cosmetics, jewelry, and many other items to UACCM students and the public. White Auditorium on the Morrilton High School campus.  There were 176 candidates for graduation.
